    WEDDINGS WITH EASE UK

  • Nowadays, a wedding is not the traditional affair that it used to be. Brides and Grooms have more of a choice when saying I do from the type of venue, at whatever time of day and on whichever

day of the week they want! There is only one part which remains untouchable though, the ceremony. We spoke to Yvonne from Yvonne Dobbs Celebrant to get some tips on creating

    the ceremony you want!

So what is a Celebrant, and why did I choose to become one? Well, I first came across this intriguingly titled role when I attended a friends wedding in Australia some years back, where they had a Celebrant conducting their beautiful wedding in a hill top vineyard overlooking the ocean, at dusk! The Celebrant told my friends ocean, at dusk! The Celebrant told my friends story, they had written and said their own vows, and it was just so different and magical! I thought then, what a great job this would be, and wondered how I might get involved.

After lots of research, I trained with the UK College of Celebrancy in the UK and qualified in 2011, since when I have worked with many couples, and since when I have worked with many couples, and created and conducted individually tailored personal ceremonies that reflect their relationship, with no restrictions on time, place, format, and more importantly, the content.

Weddingsare probably at the top of the listamongst our happiest memories. They are a part of the journey we take in life, whether for ourselves, or with others we take in life, whether for ourselves, or with others and they carry lots of meaning, emotions and hopes for the future.

Hiring a Celebrant allows couples to hold their ceremony at any time, and virtually anywhere they can hold their wedding at sunrise, or dusk, or outside in a beautiful romantic setting such as a garden, woodland, park, or beach.

Working closely with my couple, I create and then conduct their WeddingCeremony where ever andconduct their WeddingCeremony where ever andwhenever they wish. Couples usually attend a local Registry Office beforehand with just two witnesses and for a small fee, obtain their marriage licence.

After confirming the date, venue, and content, I work with them, drafting and refining their ceremony untilthey are 100% satisfied it is exactly what they want. It is then my privilege and pleasure to conduct the It is then my privilege and pleasure to conduct the ceremony, and support the couple in any way on the date, after which I provide a beautifully presented script for them to treasure.

  • WeddingTraditionsThere are so many wedding traditions and customs thatsometimes its difficult to keep track! Some even date backto Roman times, Victorian eara and some which have been simply passed down through the generations. Most ofwhich have been carried on by todays Brides and Grooms.

Something Borrowed, Something BlueSomething old refers to family and friends of the couple staying close during the marriage. Is sometimes signified by a garter given from the mother or close friend of the Bride. Somethingnew is usually something bought for the bridethat signifies the future for the couple. Herthat signifies the future for the couple. Hersomething borrowed is usually lent to the Brideby her family which is returned the next day tomake sure the bride has good luck! Finally the blue is there to reprisent fatilityin the couples marriage.

The DressOne of the biggest stories behind the wedding dress is that its unlucky for the groomto see the bride in her dress before the wedding. Did you know that it is deemed unluckyknow that it is deemed unluckyto wear your full outfit beforethe wedding? So much so thatsome brides leave one stitch un-done until they get dressed on the day!

The Wedding CakeOriginally the cake was made up of lots of little cakes which were broken up over the brides head. This was in order to wish her luck and fertility. Now-adays the more popular three tiered cake is the onethat we tend to see. The bride and groom shouldmake their first cutting of the cake together to make their first cutting of the cake together to signify the rest of their lives together. Again to ensure good luck follows the newly wed couple, every guest should eat at least a crumb of the cake!Well...who doesnt love a bit of wedding cakeanyway...

The BouquetSomething that all brides still love to do and has always beena tradition is to throw her bouquet over her head and who-ever catches it is the next to be married. On some occasionsthe groom takes off her garter and throws it to his singlemale friends. The catcher again is the next to marry,

  • I spent nearly the whole planning process leading up to the wedding either pregnant or with a new born but I still insisted on creating certain touches myself, I designed the place name cards, the menus and the table numbers. I want to thank my mum for designing and making our cakefor us not only did it save us financially but it was fantastic. One more big thanks to my daughterEvawho at only 6 years old, stood upin front of all our guests and did a speech, as it was coming to and end we were all about to applaudwhen she went on to add a few words of her own on there and she did us so so proud! Eliza was only 4 months old at the time but she was there and that meant everything to us, we can show her photos when she's older! All in all our wedding was perfect. When I was younger always said I wouldnt get married, like most little girls there dream was to grow up be a

princess for the day and marry their prince charming. For me it was very different, being diagnosed with C.M.T

peripheral neuropath (a slowly progressive muscle wasting condition) which effects my hands and feet. Mobility

has always been a struggle with me. Resulting being in and out of hospital having multiple foot reconstructions

when a member of the staff caught my eye, tall slim with strawberry blonde hair stood behind the bar with a

to my surprise he said certainly and wrote his name and number down and handed me the piece of paper.

As my health was strengthening so was my confidence as I got the courage to phone him. We went on several

dates and the relationship got stronger. Simon saw me for who I am behind the disabilities I have. After 2

Simon got down on one knee and proposed to me, I didnt think twice and said yes I didnt expect it at all, the

beautiful engagement was placed on my finger. As time went on the years went by I had many more operations.

It was had the support of my fianc and close family that got me through it, wedding planning had to be put on

hold for a while. Just as I was getting back on my feet simon was took poorly it was December 2010 rushed

Again the years went by looking after one another living life, then we got some devastating news it was May 2014

Simons mum had eukaemia she passed away aged 47 in the September 2014, it was only 6 month after my

granddad died unexpectedly April 2015 age 76.

After a very hard 12 months seeing life in a different light we talked about getting married, we both decided to just

go for it life is really precious. So in October 2015 we went to look at some wedding venues, Mytton Fold with it

being in its own grounds, the beautiful scenery in the country side, we fell in love we the place and it definitely being in its own grounds, the beautiful scenery in the country side, we fell in love we the place and it definitely

was the wedding venue for us. he ceremony, 3 course meal and evening reception all there, also a hotel so the

bride and groom got the bridal lounge and guests could stay over, absolutely perfect. With no hesitation we

booked our wedding in October 2015 for the 15th of January 2016 yes just 12 weeks away. It didnt feel real

the wedding we had both longed for was actually happening in a matter of weeks. No time to waste we put pen to

    paper and started wedding planning.

Resulting being in and out of hospital having multiple foot reconstructions

helping you. Because it was a summer wedding they wanted a bright colourful fun flower and they both really liked sunflowers. The main colour was Navy blue, with an accent of yellow. Venue was dressed with tissue pompons, in yellow and blue colours, hanging from the ceilings. Centrepieces had fresh seasonal flowers, including sun flowers. It added a real freshness and happy feel to a venue. It was a beautiful sunny day on 11 of July when they exchanged vows at Rotherham register office in front of their 40 guests. Both of them arrived together and entered the register office holding hands. Finally, after months of planning, they got to see each other in their carefully selected outfits, with big nervous grins. They both wore three-piece suits with matching vest and yellow ties. During wedding planning they found that people didn't treat them any differently just because they were gay. I asked them, what would be their advice to gay couple, which just started planning their marriage: People were so kind and made us feel so comfortable. Don't be scared not to follow all the traditions, we didn't have best men, bridesmaids or a top table but it didn't mean that the wedding felt any different. Make sure you have fun, we did little things that made people smile and laugh throughout the day. Just like any other wedding make sure you are organised, we had lots of to do lists and spreadsheets which meant everything on the day went smoothly. We set a budget before we started planning and spreadsheets which meant everything on the day went smoothly. We set a budget before we started planning and kept it updated throughout the planning to make sure we knew what we had spent
