The restored stone house and its outbuildings, which now only exist in ruins, were built by Mr. George Gordon Browne Leith, when he bought the property in 1855. The Hermitage burned almost completely in October of 1934. After several restoration projects over the years, the Hermitage was restored to its current state in 2016. The Dundas Valley is one of southern Ontario's most spectacular natural treasures. Highlights of the 1,200-hectare conservation area include lush Carolinian forests, colourful meadows, cold-water streams, stunning geological formations and an array of rare plants, birds and wildlife. The Hermitage Ruins is located just off the Main Loop Trail. The restored stone house and its

outbuildings, which now only exist in ruins, were built by Mr. George Gordon Browne Leith, when he

bought the property in 1855. The Hermitage burned almost completely in October of 1934.

Cost

• Rental fees are $1050 plus a $250 damage deposit required at the time of booking.

• Arrangements can be made for extra time needed for set-up, tear-down and rehearsals.

• Cost for additional days is $200 per day.

Paperwork & Permits

• Liability insurance of $2 million is required. A copy must be sent to the conservation area

14 days prior to the event.

• A site plan of all tents, washrooms and general set-up must be submitted to the park for

approval prior to set-up.

• Please familiarize yourself with all the conservation area rules and regulations.

• Failure to comply may result in eviction without a refund. Contact staff for details.

Miscellaneous

• There are no washrooms or hydro service at the Hermitage Ruins. Portable washrooms

and generators can be brought in at the permit holder’s expense.

• The park is not responsible for any additional items that are brought into the park

(tent/chairs/decorations).

• The Hermitage Ruins are located in a conservation area. Please be aware there may be

pedestrian traffic other than your guests.

• Parking at the Hermitage Ruins can be designated for event guests only. Guests should

show an invitation upon arrival.

• Decorations are permitted, but drilling holes into the walls or otherwise attaching items

to the Hermitage Ruins is prohibited. Confetti is not permitted.

• A photo permit must be purchased for photography. Please contact staff to obtain.
