The directions given here are for a purse using the oblique sample shape pieces "A" - Purse Body with Flap, and "B" - Purse Pocket. The embroidery design

For this project, you will need:• Purse pattern created from one of the included sample shapes. Use purse pieces A and B to create an oblique shaped purse like our sample; C and D for a rectangular purse; and E and F for an oval purse. OR, use a purchased purse pattern. Basic sewing skills are necessary for constructing the purse.• Enough fabric for Purse pieces A, B, or C, D, or E, F. Remember B, D, and F are placed on fold. Cut out pieces.• Optional: Interfacing - one layer for piece A, or C, or E.• Elastic -1/2" wide, length of folded edge of piece B, D, or F. • 48" long braided rope for purse strap• Snap or any type of closure for closing purse• Stabilizer (cutaway or tearaway)• Spray adhesive• Design HY0373

6. Remove from hoop and remove stabilizer.

7. To construct the purse:

a) Having wrong sides together, fold piece B (pocket) in half along fold edge. Stitch 5/8" from fold to form casing.

b) Insert elastic into casing. Gather slightly until the purse "Pocket" piece is the same distance across as the "Purse Body with Flap" piece. Make sure to have bottom edge of each piece aligned when measuring. Tack elastic at each end to secure. Cut away excess elastic.

c) Tack each end of the rope strap to the outside edge of the pocket over the elastic casing having the ends of the rope even with the edge of the fabric.

d) Layer pieces as follows and stitch together. First, have piece A with embroidered design right side up. On top of that, place piece B, rope side

down, aligning bottom edge. Stitch all the way around sides and bottom edge completely joining B to A. Add piece A (lining), right side down. Pin in place. Stitch all the way around leaving a 3" opening along bottom edge. Turn through opening. Turn pocket, fl ipping it to other side. If desired, slip stitch opening closed, but it is not necessary because it is hidden inside pocket.

e) Add snap or other type of closure to join fl ap to purse body.
