My name is Andrea Mezőfi, I'm living in Budapest, I'm a lawyer and I have two sons. My story begins in the winter of 1999 when my son László asked me to get Sting's new CD The Brand New Day for Christmas. I had met the request, but then I've just thought that, who is this musician, whom I don't know anything about, but my son who was 15 years old at that time has already attracted the attention of you. On one occasion during the Christmas celebration I went into my son's room and I heard a song, that I didn't know anything about, but it immediately thrilled me. It was called 'A Thousand Years'. It immediately came to light that it was a Sting record. The song was a marvellous experience to me and after that day I was very interested about who is Sting and what are his songs like. I can say without exaggeration that moment and that song changed my life. I got to know a musical world, which I've never met before. The musical world of Sting the thoughts, which he sings about, had moved into my life and now they belong to me inseparably.

Sir Sting! (not sure if you are a Sir but if you're not you should be)Hi, I hope you and your family are well. Even if you never read this it will make me feel better if I just pretend you have. Words cannot describe how highly I think of you, you really are my religion. You have enriched my life and changed my way of thinking about music and many other things. I think just listening to you has made me more intelligent, lol.I love your new album and every one before that, right from Outlandos d'amour, I have them all. Some of your songs can actually form tears in my eyes because they're so beautiful, some just make me smile, some make me laugh, some make me think, some relax me and some arouse me, and some probably do all of those at once!! No other music can do that to me! Not only are you the best artist in the business ever and always will be, but did you have to be the cutest, sexiest, most gorgeous person on the planet as well? Sometimes you're just too much for my simple brain to comprehend!I couldn't pick one favourite album, I love them all in different ways, but if I had to I'd say my favourites are 'Bring On The Night', 'Mercury Falling' and 'Brand New Day'. My favourite songs from Sacred Love are 'Sacred Love' and 'Dead Man's Rope'. Does Dead Man's Rope or Never Coming Home, or both, have the same beat in the background as Bring On The Night? I like the way your songs link into each other or have something familiar about them, I don't think any other artist does that like you do.I have been listening to your music properly for about a year and a half now, so I guess I'm a pretty new fan but I have made up for it. The more I listen to you, read about you and watch you on TV etc, the more I fall in love. I only have to think of your smile and it makes me smile uncontrollably. I may get over you one day but it's doubtful. You never seem to be on TV much in the UK though, but I'm not complaining, it's enough for me that you just exist. Watching you on the Jonathan Ross show inspired me to take up Yoga, I've been doing it for a few months and now I couldn't live without it, almost as much as I couldn't live without your music. I always do yoga to your music, I always do my homework to your music and when I'm not listening to your music it's usually going around in my head, I do listen to a lot of other artists but I'd go insane if I couldn't listen to you.I have read your book, Broken Music, it was excellent, I couldn't put it down. You've had such an interesting life, and continue to I guess. You must live a fantastic life now but are you always happy? I hope so, because you're such an amazing human being.Congratulations on your recent Grammy, and that was a great performance with Sean Paul, I especially liked that Busted type jump you do at the end. Talking of

awards, if it means anything, I think you should have won that Oscar for best song 'You Will Be My Ain True Love', it's a really beautiful song and it fitted into the film beautifully too.I really liked the duet with Craig David; I think your voices worked really well together. I bet there are so many artists out there that would love to collaborate with you; I think Dido would sound really good with you, ever considered doing a duet with her? I like the remixes of Stolen Car and the videos; you look hot but I'm still shocked at the way you're dancing with those girls! I bet Trudie wasn't too impressed with you for that, lol! I think that song should be a real hit!I have yet to go to a concert of yours, it would be incredible to see you, but I'm going to University this year so I need to save my money; and the venues nearest to me are sold out anyway. I wondered if you are going to do another leg of the tour in the UK? I will get see you one day, I promise.Well good luck to your son with Fiction Plane, Joe sounds a lot like you, I hear they're bringing out a new album here, can't wait. All the very best to Trudie, your kids and of course your good self. I wish eternal happiness to you all. Please keep singing, writing and making music until it's not physically possible.Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for being you!

I so enjoyed your autobiography that a dear friend purchased for me, knowing I was going through a rough time. Dear Sting:

I'd like to start saying a big thank you to you. You light my life every day with your wonderful music and lyrics. You're truly a poet. I also admire the way you are and how you've struggled to achieve a place with the greatests.

I'm a huge fan of you since 3 years ago. I have all your albums and I'm always searching for all the stuff I can get.

"You're my religion, you're my church; the holy grail at the end of my search..." (Sorry I stole the lyrics...;))

I'm simply in love with you. I burn for you...you're gorgeous!!!

My dream is to see you perform live; and soon my dream will come true because I'm going to your concert in Barcelona (2nd June). I can't hardly wait!! I'm sure that day will be the best of my life.

Love, Cristina.

P.D.: Please take care of your health. I'm sorry you had laryngitis this year. I hope you're completely well now.

Hi Sting! My name is Katja ,I'm from Germany and 19 years old and a huge fan of yours. Hm i don't know where to start... Well, i was 16 when i first fell in love with your music. It all started with your album "Brand new day". After that, i got hold of all your other albums and at some point i figured that your lyrics are pretty "complicated" so i translated them all, since i wanted to understand what you're singing about. My english was not great back then , but believe it or not , i got interested in the english language through you as i translated all your poetic songs.I was just fascinated with your way of using words, no surprise that you like Shakespeare. ;-) So one could say I learned english through your songs and interviews.By the way if it hadn't been for you , i wouldn't have met my first boyfriend .Ok he's my ex now , but anyway..hehe

But seriously it was so great to get to know more about the Police and your music and it's just amazing how much your voice has developed over the years. As some wise man said : Sting is like wine , the older ,the better.

I'm really so glad to be a fan of yours , because i have been listening to a lot of mediocre music before like Enrique Iglesias and some boygroups.

No, I mean some of them are not bad , but you're just another league. What i really appreciate about your music is that your songs are not "lalala" songs but rather songs which are really thought through, musically and lyrically, just meaningful songs .And I mean you did everything : Punk, rock, jazz ,country , blues,..etc just incredible!

Page 13

Fanbook 2004 – Send Your Love To Sting! Budapest, Hungary, 5th June 2004

It's great that every album of yours has its own atmosphere ,every album is a real jewel! Your music really stands so much out from the other stuff you can hear on the radio.

I am pretty sure though, that it's not only your music which makes me such a big fan of yours. I think it's also your personality and the fact that you are not arrogant , that we fans are important to you and that you make a point of giving a good show to us and besides, I think the fact that you like making music and that you really love your own music is just noticeable everytime you are on stage and that is just exactly the way it should be.Its just plain to see that you and your band have a lot of fun on stage. Speaking of your band ,incredibly talented musicians, and as you can guess from my pic i met Dominic Miller some time ago, he's such a great guitar player and an awfully nice person but i think you know that already ;-)

My friends think i'm mad because i talk about you pretty often , but i just think you're an interesting man and above all (a very goodlooking one :)hehe) and of course an outstanding musician.

I went to your concert three years ago. Maybe you remember me ?? I had a sign for you saying : Sting, i have a desert rose 4 u" ,it was in Wiesbaden,I actually wanted to throw that rose on stage (in fact i did, i tried at least) argh that security man was in the way!!!lol .I think i actually screamed my head off at that concert, well, yeah i was a big hysterical back then , but i think it's normal with girls :) The concert was just awesome!!! I loved it when you sang the first lines of "Mac the knife" in german, so sweet!! :)

The second time i got to meet you was in London at Waterstones last year in october when you were signing your biography. I had on a Sting cap, maybe you remember..?? i was so nervous and i couldn't say anything when i was standing in front of you ,that's why i only said : You're cool!! hehe Well but that's the truth!

I just hope that you keep on making music for many more years , because without your music there would be something missing . You have so many fans all over the planet ,you really can't imagine how much your music means to us!!It's indescribable, really!!

Well i sent my love to you and I hope you read this message , please promise not to ever stop making music, because i associate with your music my greatest memories !!! I'll see you in Cologne at your concert on June 16th 2004 and i'm sure that it will again be unforgettable !

well there's nothing left for me to say than that you're just the best singer ever!!!! I wish you all the best for you and your family and many many hits!! Ah and let me know if one of your sons need a (new) girlfriend...hehe

Your very loyal fan, xxxKati

My nationality is Hungarian and I teach Enlish in a grammar school and also give some lessons in the local college.Music has always been important in my life. When I first heard your 'Angel Eyes' I knew that your music would play an import life in my life. It was 5 years ago and ever since that I have used your music for teaching English, and I have to acknowledge that it has changed my life in some way as well. Your life, your ideas on things and also the way you behave make me respect you.I don't know how can I manage but I want to be in Budapest at your concert. So be sure that a girl from Transcarpathia will be among the thousands of your fans in Budapest. Unfortunately I have no scanned photos and actually my appearance is not treated as the best one.Though, I hope that your stay in Budapest will be nice and worthwile .Emoke Hiresa great fan of yours.

Hi, I was lucky enough to get tickets for 3 of your shows, two at the royal albert hall & manchester, I was very upset to hear you had to postpone some, because you were ill, I hope that you are feeling better. I went to a show at the Royal Albert Hall, on sun 16th, and want to apologise, to you for the most unappreciative fans, I was sat to the right of you and I wanted to stand up, but i got threatened, then i also got yelled at for clapping! Just wanted to let you know I think you are fantastic, and the rest of the band is great too! The Show on the saturday was stunning, and you should be very proud of all the hard work you and your band and crew have put in! I loved the fact that you brought your double bass with you! and I hope to see you in Manchester I will sitting in seat 4, of the front row centre, I will also try and give you and the band some flowers, so hope to see you soon and better! I had a get well card for you that i was going to give to you at the! book signings, that i travelled to london and manchester, in time for, but it wasnt meant to be! I will send it to the Albert hall, maybe you will get it there! May i wish you a PROSPEROUS LIFE AND TRUE HAPPINESS!!! GOD BLESS!!! Love Jackie Brennan ( Manchester)

Dear Sting, I would like to thank you for all the tunes you have written for us; it is no exaggeration to state that on many occasions it is your music that provides the answers to the great questions of life. Your art touched me at a special stage in my life; you became my favourite musician, as well as my distant mentor, at the time when I was stepping from childhood into the teenage years, and finally growing into an adult. It has supported me at many times, in various situations; time and time again I have discovered your influence in the development of my way of thinking. I can hardly wait to see you in Budapest and some other gigs on the tour! Thank you once again and please give my regards to Dominic as well! :-)cheers,Andris

Dear Sting,

3 years ago, I could be on your concert in Switzwerland. It was so much good that I could not be able to sleep all night. I will never forget this concert. From this moment, I live with your music. My favorite song is Ghost Story because when I listen it, I feel myself in winter that I love so much. Every winter day I wait the first snow-like a kid-, and when it falls I listen this song. The winter starts by Ghost Story. Nobody can explain what can we feel in your songs but I know it's something very good. I would like to thank this song and of course all and that you make me always cheerful and gay. I hope everyone who listen your music feel similar; you make more good songs and concerts and you will also enjoy the concert in Budapest.:-)

Best wishes, and love: Judit who adore Ghost Story!

P.s.: I hope I can be on your concert in Budapest at front-row.

I hate having to choose one song - so many are favorites! Why Lithium Sunset? It was a ray of hope and a touch of stability in a maelstrom.

Just wanted to thank you, Sting. Your music was a godsend when I needed it most, and remains so today. Along with my first love, crochet, your music carried me through a time when I couldn't carry myself. I was unable to meet you in Tampa because of tight scheduling (we won't mention blowing you a kiss that night from the third row, - I'm amazed you saw me and 'flirted' a bit too!). Hopefully that can be corrected come September and the Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh shows! Three nights in a row - my fondest hope is that you become tired of the sight of me...

The other of my fondest hopes is to sing with you someday. Your music speaks to my soul, and the chance to make music with you, just once, is a dream dear to my heart.

Words won't cover it (and that's a huge statement from a poet), but know that you have my support and respect along with the affection of a life you have touched with music and laughter and light and hope. Blessed be, honored Bard.--Wren

my dearest sting! I would like to share with you the highpoint of my life: it was when I went to see your concert with my friend in Helsinki,2001. It was rainy and gray, but suddently the sun came out from behind the clouds, and shone it`s gentle rays upon you. You started to sing "after the rain" as if to celebrate the sunshine. The mood of the concert was beyond words to describe. When you returned to Helsinki in april 2004, I was there to see you again. The show was incredible, the anti-war theme was touching and memorable. It made me think about all the pain and misery in the world. Allthough you made a strong point of your opinnion on war, you still brought up feelings of hope and love, and the feeling that we can help to make the world a better place. My heart was crying because I couldn`t get any nearer to you. My place was in the back, so I couldn`t see you almost at all. I would wait a thousand years to see you again in Helsinki, but please, try to come b!ack as soon as you can. Thank you for bringing great amounts of joy into my life.

Yours truly Kaija Ketonen, Finland

I am now living in Budapest and few months ago I heard about your concert inBudapest, who I have been looking forward to it. Then few weeks ago I foundout that the concert will be exactly on 5th June, which is my birthday! So Iwill be a great special gift from me to finally see you and to be in yourconcert.

Thank you for being a fabulous singer and musician. Keep up the good workand wish you succesfull albums in the future.

Your music is an essential part of my life - like an ocean, it soothes my head and like a sunset, it heals my soul. Sorry, I bet you get sick of fans always quoting your lyrics, but we can’t help it, you do write the most amazing things. I hope people don’t use this opportunity to pester you about a Police re-union or something like that, I love the Police but I think you did the right thing, always trust your instincts though I’m sure you do. I hope you are feeling better from the laryngitis, you seemed to have bounced back well although sometimes I am concerned that you work too much but as long as you and your family are happy then its all good! And although I love this album please don’t make Sacred Love your last. I thank you for what you do with all my heart and soul.

Hi Sting! As probably everyone here I would like to let you know how much I appreciate your music. It's been a great help for me over the past five years. In October 2001 you did a Webchat with Jools Holland on Vizzavi. I asked you what you do when you're really sad and you said I would have to breathe in and out and to focus my attention on something I can care for. You probably don't remember, but it really was good advice and I with your help I made it out of the dark. My problem was that I had a relationship with one of my former teachers but she was married and was not strong enough to leave her husband. As you said "'I love you but you belong to somebody else' is very interesting." I don't want to bother you with details of my private life, I just wanted you to know, that your music somehow is the soundtrack of my life. "Don't Stand So Close To Me" fit very well, as well as "I Was Brought To My Senses" and "Dead Man's Rope".I'm glad you're back on stage again and I hope to see you in Munich on June 20. I will be the girl in the front row with the yellow and black striped top. ;-)I was wondering whether you are planning to do a book singning in Munich as well?

Well, now the 1000 characters I was given are used up and all that's left for me to do is to ask you to keep up the great great work, never ever stop singing, all the best for you and your family and friends.

Love, Nicole

I have limited space, so I must use it carefully. Let me start by saying that I love listening to your music because it challenges not only my musical sense but also my intellect! Two points: First an assumption, then a questionThe assumption is that you have a personal relationship with God - that you are in fact a Christian! I base the assumption on 'Fill her up', 'Dead Man's Rope' and 'Whenever I Say Your Name' - plus some subjective experiences. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)The question is: Do you use the platform that you have achieved as effective as possible?? Have you considered the influence you could have on other people's lives? I'm NOT saying you should become a preacher (nobody likes being preached at) - but if you share what you've found it could have a tremendous effect - you could be a tool transforming lives. You could start by admitting that WISYN can be interpreted as a song about the power of the name of Jesus!

Still praying for you!Helle

Although we all know life isn't fair,to make it that way we still dare. Can't you see I'm trying to make you awareMy mind's consumed in this strange affair?"I burn for You" but you're not there. And even if you did know me would you care?Only my music and friends keep me from that nightmare.

You're so far from me it's as if your deadbut your voice is still echoeing in my head.It haunts me even when I'm in bed.All your songs all at once is how it's said. You're a complicated person so I've read'Noone will understand me' is what you've said.I've heard and felt what's inside your head,it says in my letters-have they been read?

a risk you may only choose to fret. With my life I made this bet,win or loose you behold the step.I'm wrapped around your fingernow dancing in your footstepsor do we both end up getting wet?Your voices(in your head) may be the thoughts of me,floating like a butterfly and stung by a bee.I only ask if I could be free,to resolve and create this overwelming spree. In your music it is for us to seethat music can soothe maybe cure our schizophysiology. To recognize strength in massive harmonywe need to feel the individuals' melodies.Only music and art reflects lifeas it has been and to be.

Music reflects our evolutionand in it we can find solutions. Our minds' and hearts' confusionmay only be dillution. We have to come to the conclusion, this piercing dissonance needs resolution.Together we may point to a solutionor sink and drown in our ethereal dillutions. And make our own conclusionthat our magic is only illution.

Dear Sting,

normally I don't write any fan letters to anyone, but this shall be an exception:-) I have been a fan of your music for 17 years now, starting with Russians as a single...you got me interested in pop music because I was just into classical music before that;-) Furthermore, you prove daily that intelligence, good looks and a love of music, literature and lyrics don't exclude a successful pop career! As an MA of English Literature and Celtic Studies I find it very interesting that I can learn some English vocabulary by reading your excellent autobiography Broken Music or your lyrics! As in comparison to other interviewees your interviews are always interesting to read and inspiring as well....You really make a difference there;-)It is, of course, just a part of your whole personality we get, because most of us (including me) have never met you personally, but you can't have everything in life..;-)))

Best wishes for your future life and music

ello,Sting!

My Name is Kaoru Sato,I live in Tokyo,Japan.

My dream I'd like to share with you is making the model of the community(fild) where we can keep ourself alive and cerculate the materials by applying the process work.

I regurd your music as the process of growing your soul, it express not only your primary process but also your secondary process.I think both of them are a lot of fun, because these are your whole personarity.Japanese male fans expect you to revolutionize about something and achieve your ambition for themselves,Japanese female fans project the idial father or man to you for themselves.

The key words I shrare with you, they are various, music,synchronicity,moon,taoism...I think they are the rule of universe ,so I'll tell you some stories about them.

synchronicity:

1.In my traveling to U.S.in 1987 ,a friend of mine asked me to buy the T-shirts of the 'miami vice' but I had no idia where we could got them. One day I passed by the TV station,TV people were on strike there.I was interesed in the stirke and went into the TV station bulding.Just there the 'Miami vice' T-shirts were sold!Since it I have belived in the phenomena of the shinchronicity complately.

2.In 1986 I saw my friend to drink at the bar in Soho, NY and then he said "I have been to the show of Sting at the hotel St.Regis".Next day I walked along the street in Soho I found the sun glasses which have the same design(paired lengthways ellipse and oblong elipse ) you had worn before.

3.Recently I strolled around the street thinking about my E-mail which will be derivered to you,I saw a woman wore Sting T-shirt printed 'Filds of gold' on it in front of the flower shop.

Page 53

Fanbook 2004 – Send Your Love To Sting! Budapest, Hungary, 5th June 2004

4.In early 1989,after I lithened to the album 'Sychronicity'in my apartment,I went to a book store in Roppongi to see the book about the Jung psychology.after all, I bought another book next to it,I got a work based on the infomation written in the book.

5.I study the psychology of the process work based on the Jung group theory include the theory for the solution of the conflict between the races and ofthe ecological problem.

moon:

1.In my childfood I had an image everytime I walked, the moon fallowed me.The moon was not my guide,I was the moon's guide. It's the exact opposite to 'sister moon'.

2.In the lunar landing of the apollo11 in 1969,I was in a class at the elementary school and wached on TV,a teacher commented to the class "The time may come when Kaoru will get married and live in the moon".I was very amazed to hear that.Whenever I lithen to 'Walking on the moon'I remenber the teacher's wards and the situation.

3.In the lunar landing of the apollo11 in 1969,a teacher said " we can see the rabitt making the rice cake on the surface of the moon in Japan, but in U.S, we can see the crab on it.In my second time travel to U.S. I wanted to comfirm it and went to New Orleans,I took some pictures of the' moon over Burbon street' to prove it.

4.I've chased afeter the moon and the sun,but I've never chased after celebrity.May I go after you next time?(a book signing or a concert in a forein country)

See you soon!!!!!!!

Hi, this is Anna and Konrad from Poland. We have been the biggest Sting's fans for over 10 years, since we first heard "Every breath you take" on Polish radio, at 5 am. while studying for an exam. We were not couple yet. This song has accompanied us from the first step as a couple to our marriage. Two years ago we got married and "Every breath" was the first song played on our wedding. Sting is the greatest artist for us, he creates amazing, timeless music and thought-provoking songs. We dream of meeting him one day and having a word.* We were at the first concert in Poland (Mercury Falling in 1996) and we have not missed any concert since then (the picture was taken before Brand New Day concert in 2001). This year Poland is not included in "Sacred Love" tour so we will go to Modena in Italy. Dear Sting! see you in Modena! Anna and Konrad* actually, Konrad is a good drummer and he rather dreams of playing just one song with Sting. Anna

Hi Sting,I hope you are good and well. I'll start by saying how much I appreciate your music but also how much I appreciate you simply to look at! You were incredibly sexy in the Police days but from then on you seem to have got more and more handsome - Justin Timberlake doesn't have half the sex appeal you have - I think you must have made a deal with the devil! But, if you don't mind me saying, from the pictures I’ve seen of you recently may I suggest a haircut! And another thing - what happened to that nice beauty spot/mole thing you used to have below the right side of your bottom lip? It seems to have miraculously disappeared! On this form it asks to pick a favourite song, that's really hard but I'd say my favourites are 'Bring On The Night,' 'Desert Rose' and 'Englishman in New York.' Do you really like your toast done on one side? Yuk! What I really like in some of your songs is the way you can generate that beautiful feeling of a summer evening - I don't know why but a lot of your music really gives the mood of that time of day when the sun is setting, like Bring on the night, I Burn for you, Be Still My Beating Heart, Fragile, The Wild Wild Sea, When we Dance, Lithium Sunset, Valparaiso, End of the Game, Desert Rose, Ghost Story, and others.I love listening to your songs and trying to figure out what they mean and I also enjoy attempting to understand you as a person - that's very difficult, you're not a

Page 56

Fanbook 2004 – Send Your Love To Sting! Budapest, Hungary, 5th June 2004

simple man, but I think, maybe, I understand a little part of you. The internet is a good place to begin, lol! Your fans, me included, spend much of our time discussing you on Sting message boards, that must be weird for you to think that people all over the world are having arguments about whether you make other people buy you drinks because you don't carry cash around for example or which album of yours is the best; which video you look the sexiest in; which single you should bring out next or what your favourite food might be. There's a good Sting message board on Vh1.com - maybe you could secretly join in sometime - that would be unreal. You said once that you used to be much more of an angry person and it's obvious that you are much happier in your life now than you were at the time of the Police but have you really changed as a person? In your book you say you used to have tantrums and once threw plates at the wall, have you done anything like that recently? You based a whole Police album on a book ' Ghost in the Machine ' I haven't read it but I've read reviews on it, would you still recommend that book or do you have different opinions on life now? What I would like to know is why you seem to be so money orientated nowadays; don't get me wrong - I know that you mean it when you say you would make the music regardless of the money or the fame, and you deserve the wealth for what you do, however it does seem that you show off about it a little too much and that you're always trying to find new ways of making more money like making people pay to be a member of Sting.com - I don't know how much control you have over that website but personally I preferred the old format, anyway that's besides the point - I just hope you use this money wisely; I know that you do a lot of good in the world and I believe that you're a good person but, even though you don't care what people think, some people might see it as being greedy. I hope I haven't offended you - you are my hero - it's just frustrating sometimes because I really don't know a thing about you and never will, but on the other hand that's all part of the fun!Anyway I should get back to what really matters - the music. Forgetting all this I have rambled on about here and whoever you are - listening to your music will always make me feel good. Thank you for that. Enjoy the rest of your tour and keep doing what you do best.Peace on earth, joy to all mankind. xXxXx

Sting, you're one of my very favourite artists, if not the favourite. Not only does your music appeal to me a lot, but also your whole style and way of thinking - and I like some of your films, esp. "Julia and Julia". People often say to me:"You look like Sting", which is very flattering for me. You're almost too good for my narcisstic reflection, sometimes I feel like a copy or a doppelganger when I look at you! But what the heck! I did not only steal some of your style ideas (apart from the natural resemblance), I think you gave me some true and worthwile inspiration as well. I understand that this letter is among the thousands that you must be getting for this very special opportunity given to your fans about being able to compose a letter that you will receive personally to read. I am hoping that you come across this letter because this is the most significant letter that I have ever written to anyone in my entire life. I do not wish to sound melodramatic, sorry, but this is a monumental opportunity that I just could not forsake.

It is also kind of a simple sounding letter, so I hope that is okay with you :) :) I wish it looked more groundbreaking, but I have expressed my thoughts to you in a simplistice yet candid way and I hope you appreciate what I will tell you!!

We both realize that I am a fan of you and your music. So that is self-explanatory, why repeat it here? I am not here to tell you that I am merely a fan, but the vital reasons for being one of your most devoted fans. I also have collected all of the Police albums as well, the only one I do not have is the Live album.

At the risk of feeling embarrassed, I must confess that I believe that I suffer from very deep depression. I feel trapped in it too, and as a result of this feeling abysmally low day in and day out, I lost interest in practically everything that I either used to enjoy or have motivation to do. Out of everything that I lost interest in, the one and almost only thing that retained my interest were your albums and your songs. When I listen to your songs, I feel much calmer and at peace afterwards. I ask myself, how would I cope with this depression if you did not exist? I really do not know what I would do. No other person's music has been able to make me feel at peace, the way yours does. I am only one person in this world, and your music has such an impact on me. And think of the millions of other people in the world whose lives you have impacted because of your talent! The world would be a much, much different and emptier place without your music, and it is a blessing to be!a fan of yours.

I am one of those Sting fans that likes every one of your albums and sees each of them as unique and special to my collection of your works. My favorites among them are The Dream of the Blue Turtles, The Soul Cages, Mercury Falling, and All This Time. It is impossible for me to tell you my all-time favorite songs of yours, so I will tell you that my immediate favorites are Children's Crusade, They Dance Alone, Englishman in New York, Island of Souls, Wild Wild Sea, Fields of Gold, When We Dance, Love is Stronger Than Justice, I Was Brought To My Senses,

Page 60

Fanbook 2004 – Send Your Love To Sting! Budapest, Hungary, 5th June 2004

Valparaiso, and Book of My Life. But do not think the list stops there! If I said any more songs, this letter would never end!!

I will tell you how important you and your music are to my everyday life. I could start by saying that you are my favorite artist ever. Other people may be very talented, and even if someone else has wonderful music, the music and the singer are simply NOT the same as yours. I wish I could figure out a logical explanation as to why this is so. I just believe that your music and your voice is so unique, that no one can duplicate it. If there was a fire in my house (God forbid) and I could only take with me the CDs of only one artist, I would take yours in a heartbeat because your CDs are that important to me.

I became a fan of yours exactly one year ago. I had only heard you in the song "Every Breath You Take" but other than that, you I heard Fields of Gold on the radio and I thought it stood out from the other songs because the melody was very lovely, and the voice of the man singing it was so beautiful. I somehow found out it was you, and sought to discover more of your songs. I also watched videos of They Dance Alone and Englishman in New York on your website when it was not updated, and I liked those songs to the point where I wanted to purchase an album of yours. I realized that your "Fields of Gold: Best of Sting 1984-1994" had the three songs that I had wanted: Fields of Gold, They Dance Alone, and Englishman in New York. As I listened to the entire CD, I discovered that there were other songs that I had liked as well, and didn't realize how good you were. I became really impressed by you and decided to purchase other albums of yours. I already had Brand New Day as we!ll as the Fields of Gold album, so I decided to purchase the Soul Cages. I heard it was a wonderful album and I realized that their claims were correct. I purchased Mercury Falling afterwards, then gradually I collected all of your work. It has been almost a year now that I officially became a fan of yours, and I must say that your music is the only music in which I wish to listen to it literally every day. If I go one day without hearing your music, I start feeling very strange! Your music is not just music like people listen to when they want to turn on the radio. It is as important as the food I eat and water I drink, that is, it is a staple of my life!

I have read your autobiography Broken Music, and I wish to reread it when I have more time. I was very impressed with your writing in this book. I was not surprised to see it written so well, considering that your lyrics have such profound depth and beauty, and I had a feeling that your intelligent manner of writing would transfer over from lyrics to passages in a book. What I was pleased to see was that your book was very humbly written, as if you had wanted your readers to be exposed to you as a person, a real human being, and not just a musician. It appears as if you wanted your readers to realize what your family and childhood was like, what hopes and dreams you had, and the hardships you overcame and the people who inspired you to fulfill your goals. It appeared as if I were reading the autobiographical memoir of the person behind all this music, and not just a gossipy account of your interactions with other famous musicians. Although this was the subject of ridicule am!ong people who are impervious to anything else, this is what helped me gain my respect toward you as a person even more. The last chapter about the special

Page 61

burial service for the young girl really moved me and solidified my opinion that you are more than just a musician but a humanitarian. I am glad that I read your book, and I will read it again.

I realize that I will probably never meet you, so this is why I composed this very special note for you. I feel that this is the only way for me to tell you why you are my favorite musician and one of the most important people who have positively changed my life.

There is no one out there like Sting and there never will be, musicians like you only come once!

Hello Sting,

just want to thank you for all your nice songs. I think we need such songs as yours, not only the foolish "yeah I love you baby bla bla bla" hits that are sooo wide spread today. Most performers make their audience only enjoy their music. There are really few (of course, you're included :-D) who can make people think about important things.

Nice to see the "complete short stories" in your songs (Never coming home, Stolen car ...). They show brief episodes of life, how we hesitate before taking our decisions, etc.

Okay I finish writing now, I think you're tired of reading the many many messages :-)

David

PSWhy English man in NY is my favorite song? We all have habits that may seem strange to the others. But that is their problem :-)

"It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smileBe yourself no matter what they say"

Dear Sting, This is my second message to you. I was asked to choose a favourite song and thought about Mad about you because I like the All this time version very much, but then I realized it is impossible to tell which my favourite song is. There is something in all of them which makes me like them so much, for instance, I love Fragile because of its moving feelings against violence. I adore Shape of my heart , Until and Englishman in NY for their outstanding music and I feel identified with the stories in many of your songs , for example, with Dont stand so close... for who has never had an unrequitted love being young? I also feel moved with the story of the sisters in Tea in the Sahara, I don´t know why that song is so much special to me.To sum up, is it clear that I really appreciate what you do and your soul? Because only someone with an enlighted heart can put into words and music such deep and sincere feelings. Love.Natalia

Dear Sting,on 16th May 2004 you gave a wonderful concert @the Royal Albert Hall. It was my Mum's 54th birthday that day and it was my present to bring her to London to see you. I think it was one of the happiest days in our lives, thank you for singing even though suffering from throat infection!! I grew up with your music from when it was possible (Police wasn't allowed in the GDR, or hard to get, at least), my parents loved you ever since "Russians"... they always told me about when they heard it for the first time and couldn't believe that someone would sing a wonderful, true song like that. I am ever stunned how you manage to express the things I think in such words and tunes, it' s unbelievable. You're very inspiring, not only through your music, but through most things you're doing. I recently saw the "All this time" DVD and couldn't stop myself from crying along when you were discussing wether to perform or not. "The world has changed" - I don't think you were awar!e of how right you were then, but -as always- you said the right thing and made

the right choice to perform that night, for this concert was the one positive sign on that day and it said it all.I am so glad you left Newcastle that one day and worked as hard as you did to

become who you are! Thank you so much for everything. Love you.Nora

Dear Sting!

You were right. Inspite of reading a thousand articles about you, following the events in your life. Despite all these, I still do not know anything about you. But if I listen to your music you involuntarily can show me what sort of person you reallyare. And that is much more one can hear from the news.

Thank you your music!

With love: Mónika

My girlfriend (Lynn) and I are huge fans! We'll be attending your upcoming show in Columbus Ohio. I'm planning on proposing to her during the concert. It would mean so much if you could say something to her from stage that night. Just a congratulations or something. Just asking, thanks and I can't wait to see the show.

Frankly, my girlfriend and I have never been huge fans of yours. We knew more or less your songs from the TV and the radio, but that was it.Then I changed my job where Attis became a colleague of mine, who is the editor of the Hungarian Sting website. While working together, I noticed that I borrow your CDs and DVDs more often from him... Today we already have our own DVDs and we enjoy to listen to or watch them...We couldn’t say that we are your greatest fans, but you know, there is good music and bad music. And yours is so good.Of course Attis played a significant role in this progress, who is one of the creators of this Fanbook that you are reading now.We wish you and Attis good luck and very successful work!

Thank you for the opportunity!Ildiko and Jano

Sting, I have adored you since thefirst moment I laid eyes on you, whenI was 12. Your songs have inspiredme to be a better artist and a betterperson. In times of loneliness andsadness, your songs have comfortedme. In times of great love andhappiness, your songs have beenmy personal soundtrack. Thank youfor your contributions to the world ofmusic and to the world around us.You are a beautiful person andsomeone I consider to be a truegenius. Plus, you are damn cute andfunny. I grew up Baptist and theywere very against rock and rollmusic. I remember one day, when Iwas 14 or so, my mother camehome from church in a huff. She saidthat her Sunday school class told herthat your music was Satanic. Shesaid "Don't worry, I don't believethem. I know that Sting is not Satanic. You listen to him all you want." Shetold me, years later, that "Elvis wasmy Sting." It made me laugh andappreciate how she was trying toconnect with me through music, despite our 32 year age difference. She always encouraged me to followmy dreams. She passed away 2years ago from cancer and I stillmiss her everyday. Your music reallyhelped me with my loss. So, thankyou, Sting, for touching my life. Andplease, end your concerts withMessage in the Bottle. I reallymissed it this last time. With love and respect, Kimberly R. Miracle

Dear Sting,

I'd like to thank you for lighting up over half of my life with your music. Your autograph of 1987 on the sleeve of my copy of Nothing like the Sun is amongst my most prized possessions. I love your versatility as a musician, but if I had to pick one of your musical styles, it'd be Sting-the-troubadour, whom I liken to the English Lake Poets. I'm particularly grateful to you for ALWAYS including Helsinki in your tour agenda. Thank you for a superb two hours at the Hartwall Arena on the 28th of April! I do sincerely hope that our cool spring weather did not cause your laryngitis. I'm happy to hear you are well again for the rest of Europe to enjoy your concerts & feel honoured to pay tribute to you through the efforts of your Hungarian fans, Finns' kindred people. All the Best to you & your family. See you soon & God Bless!

Lots of Love, your devoted fanIrmeli xxx

Dear Sting,

What shall I say? Neither a page nor even a book would be enough to express what does your music mean to me. I could analyse the structure of your songs, the importance of your arrangements, the punctuality of your musicians’ playing or the meanings of your lyrics, but all these efforts may be unnecessary. I could also write wonderful metaphors or deep thoughts, but I won’t do that.

Previously your music was just a pastime for me, one of those ’good music’, a lesson to play the guitar. Today it became an essential part of my life. I got to know more and more things about your songs, about the way of their creation, and about you of course. Although I still cannot play the guitar perfectly, I had been collecting your recordings since I was 16. Five years ago I started to build a Hungarian website in order to systematize all the information I gathered before and share them with other fans. On 1st September 1999 with my friend, Greg and I founded the Hungarian Sting Fan Club, initially as an internet mailing list. All of these things; the website, the fan club and to listen to your music dominate my days.

Perhaps there is no part of life that I cannot connect with one of those anecdotes about you, a lyric or a melody. Even though I am aware of the hottest news about you, I read most of the biographies and ’Broken Music’ as well, I still do not know everything about you and never will. It wouldn’t be so good at all, because the magic – which motivates me to listen to your albums over and over again, drives me to understand your lyrics and makes me to search for the latest news about your music every time – may fade away. I hope you are going to play music for us for a very long time and this magic will never disappear from my life.

Thank you for singing to us!
