WE are Leader in Me!

After thoughtful consideration, Webster Elementary is excited to announce that we are off icially working to become a Leader In Me school! Throughout the past two years, we have thoughtfully learned about Leader in Me and whether it would be the right f it for Webster. Last year the staff participated in a book study by reading, The Leader In Me: How Schools Around the World Are Inspiring Greatness, One Child at a Time, learned more about the instructional program from a TLIM consultant, and used the leadership language in their classrooms, our J-Hawk Huddles, and assemblies. This year we have continued the use of the language in classrooms, Huddles, and during assemblies. Teachers have toured local TLIM buildings, and during a professional development late start session, a TLIM consultant spent t ime with us to help us understand the purpose of the process. Additionally, throughout the year we have ref lected upon what students, staff , parents, and our community need in a school and how TLIM can and will support the vision and mission of our work. We are excited about what this whole school transformation process will bring to Webster, and how the focus on 21st century leadership and life skil ls will create a culture of

Spring Running Club Begins Spring is here and it?s time for Running Club to start up once again. Spring Running Club will begin on Monday, April 3rd and go until Friday, May 12th.

Running Club allows students the opportunity to spend the outdoor portion of their lunch recess running laps around the playground to accumulate miles. Six laps is the equivalent of a mile. Parent-volunteers keep track of the miles run and prizes are awarded for achieving dif ferent milestones. Past prizes have included everything from pencils to water bottles.

Running Club is a fun, effective way to get kids moving and introduce them to the joys of running. If you are interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Schutt. ([email protected])

The P.T.O. will have several committee chair openings for the 2017-18 school year. Please reach out to a current board member or email [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about the open positions.

2017-18 Committee Chairs:

· RAW (understudy)

· Library helpers

· Box tops

The Urbandale Community School District is conducting a community planning process that is reviewing facility usage data combined with best practices for creating 21st century learning environments in order to determine the most comprehensive plan for designing future-ready schools throughout our district. These are important conversations about how our district will be structured in terms of number of elementary schools, equity throughout the district, and physical/functional needs at UMS and UHS. We would like to request your input via this Facility Planning Survey. The survey consists of 12 questions and will be open through the end of day Monday, April 3, 2017 (Note: the survey is best viewed via a desktop or tablet). We know this community planning process is only as good as the amount of input received, so please complete the survey and plan on attending the following three Community Engagement Sessions:

· #1 Discovery: Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at Urbandale Middle School * * Not e: Locat ion has changed t o Urbandale Middle School* *
