Children from Fairisle Junior, Oakwood and Mansel Park battled it out with a series of events that included a ‘bleep test’, a cross country run and a fitness circuit. Sky Bedwell said ‘We all had a great day. We got to speak to children from the other schools. Then the children participated in activities in class. Year 4 Visit to the Hindu Temple Last week, Year 4 visited the Vedic Society Hindu temple in Northam. This trip was part of the topic on India and gave the children the opportunity to experience the exotic sights and smells. Although a service was in progress when we arrived, the children watched and listened very respectfully and were a real credit to the school. They were fascinated by the pictures and statues of the various Hindu Gods and produced some fantastic drawings of what they saw. All children agreed that they enjoyed the trip very much and had learnt so much more about India and Hinduism. Website: www.fjslive.net Twitter: @FairisleJS

Sainsbury’s Active Kids 2016 is Launched

I am very pleased to announce the launch of this year’s Sainsbury’s voucher scheme. Last

year we collected over 30,000 vouchers and we bought PE resources to further enhance the

children’s sporting experience at school.

Federation Fitness Event comes to Fairisle

Fairisle Junior hosted the first Federation event of the year last Friday, putting on a series of intense physical challenges for our partner schools. Children from Fairisle Junior, Oakwood and Mansel Park battled it out with a series of events that included a ‘bleep test’, a cross country run and a fitness circuit.

Sky Bedwell said ‘We all had a great day. We got to speak to children from the other schools. It felt really good when we won, especially that we beat our local rivals!’

Well done and congratulations to Fairisle Junior who finished with the highest score. The next Federation sports event will take place after the Easter holiday.

E-Safety Day at Fairisle Junior

On Tuesday this week we celebrated Safer Internet Day,

in which we took the opportunity to remind the children

how we can use the internet positively and safely. In year

groups on Tuesday Mrs Saunders and our ICT Technician

Dan Worthington, talked with the children about keeping

safe online and how to ensure the privacy settings on

Playstations and X-Box consoles were properly set. Then

the children participated in activities in class.

Year 4 Visit to the Hindu Temple

Last week, Year 4 visited the Vedic Society Hindu temple in Northam.

Attendance and Punctuality — Spring Term 2016

I am overwhelmed that attendance at Fairisle Junior has been the best ever during this term. Since

Christmas, a staggering 169 children attended school on-time every day (147 this time last year) and 62

children have attended on-time every day since September (43 this time last year). I would like to say a

huge ‘well done’ and congratulations to everyone (and their families of course!) .

The following children came to school on time every day during this half term from Tuesday 5th

January to Friday 12th February and those children in bold type have attended on-time every day

since September. Overall attendance since September is a fantastic 96.7%. Very well done!
