Project Statement!Company: TheKnot.com is an commerce site online that caters to Brides intending to plan a wedding. The site offers many different services including (and not limited to) searching, comparing, and purchasing; wedding gowns, dresses, honeymoons, vendors, invitations, save the dates, thank you cards, rentals, rings, tux rentals, websites, flowers, and tickets. The website allows the user to become a member and log in so that all of their planning can be organized and easily gathered in one place. !Problem: The problem with TheKnot.com is that since there is so much that the user can do with this site and so many things to purchase the homepage (among other pages) is over cluttered and very claustrophobic. When trying to locate certain things on the site or to log in- the busyness creates confusion. The site seems to replicate/mirror the bride’s anxiety. !Opportunity: With a redesign of the home page and some organization there is opportunity to clean up the confusion and help the user (bride) have a nice, stress free experience that won't leave her pulling her hair out. !Solution: The home page has far too many navigation options, they should be simplified and consolidated. There should be an option for "one stop shop" for brides who want it all and also broad options for brides looking to browse. The login should be obvious and easy to use. This can be done by eliminating unneeded options and navigation on the home page.!!Tones: Clean, relaxing, organized, energized, enjoyable.!

User Personas!Lindsay the Bride (23): Lindsay needs theKnot to organize all her wedding plans. TheKnot provides her with inspiration, options, and a way to organize exactly what she wants without cluttering her mind any more than it already is in this stressful time. She enjoys using theKnot because when her friends and family bombard her with questions, she can send them to her website instead of trying to converse with each and every one of them about what she wants or what they can do to help.!!Brad the Groom (27): Brad is super excited to get married, but this whole planning business kind of baffles him. He knows his wonderful fiancé is a little overwhelmed so he’s glad theKnot is there to help. He can easily do his part by picking out groomsmen gifts and even personalizing them if he wishes and adding these to Lindsay’s website. He enjoys theKnot because it doesn’t only speak to the bride and he can find gifts even his most boyish friends can enjoy. !Mary the Bride’s Mother (50): Mary is beyond excited for her beautiful young daughter to finally get married. She is determined to help her daughter plan every aspect of the wedding, and cannot stop giving her opinions of what young Lindsay should do. TheKnot is good for her (and probably more so the bride) so they can both work together to plan certain things, without Mary stopping in on the bride-to-be every two days to give her ideas.!

Sea Green & Coral

Reminds me of hospital colors & certainly not the joy of your wedding.

San-Serif

Clean & professional looking, however some light blue text on white can be hard on the eyes.

Top navigation bar makes it fairly easy to navigate however some titles are a bit misleading and there’s no way of tracking where you’ve been.

Brides.com

Grey, White & Black

Definitely has a clean feel, but it seems a bit industrial or business-like for a wedding site.

Serif & San Serif

Fairly elegant looking. Gives impression of “high-class”. Reasonable contrast.

The tabbed top navigation bar seems as though it would be easy to use but once you’re on individual pages there are just way too many options.

Dark Blue & Teal

Fairly calming which is good for this stressful time, however they don’t compliment each-other very well.

Script, San-Serif & Serif

Cluttered/ill-advised. Too many options in a small space. Doesn’t look professional.

There are multiple navigation systems, including a huge list to the left side. Its very confusing, there is however a breadcrumb trail which helps.

Hot Pink & Light Pink

Tailors to the “girly-girl” instead of leaving it open for the rest of the party. Overbearing with no accent colors

San-Serif

Basic but clean. Some areas have a bit too thin of a stroke so it’s a bit difficult to read.

The top navigation drops down and makes finding things pretty easy, however you have to be a member of the site which is really difficult.
