IMPORTANT NOTICES

It is with pleasure that I inform you that the committee has made the following appointments for 2019Library Officer Cheryl ReidProperty Officers Richard Williams, Peter AngusMany thanks to these members for all the work they undertake, and the support they give, to the club.Leanne NewsonSecretaryNotice to junior membersWe want to encourage you all to enjoy our race meetings, especially those of you who are not racers.A limited number of laps of the Sandown race track, in a course car, may available to our junior members who are not racers but want to experience the thrill of being on the track. If you are interested please contact Rohan Carrig at [email protected] asap2018 - The Racing SeasonFor our little team, so far this year has been the best one yet. A handful of top 15 finishes is great for the #49 Formula Ford team, considering the best result from last year was 19th. Our driver, Eric Bellamy, has progressed so much, helping our mechanic, Derek Smith, grow confidence in the car’s ability and also Eric’s ability to be a competitive driver, which as a result has helped me to have confidence that we are growing as a team. That may sound silly, as three people isn’t a big team, but we have come so far since the Sandown meeting of 2016. The car is almost at its most competitive level, which is a massive achievement, but we are still searching for the last tiny bit that can make our little Wren Formula Ford more competitive than ever. Another thing contributing to our decent year is that Eric has done more laps in the Wren, meaning he’s giving more feedback to our mechanic (also my grandpa), Derek Smith, helping him get a handle of what he can do to help Eric go faster. Sandown is less than a month away, and the three of us have been anticipating it since the last meeting we ran the Wren at, which was the Winton Festival of Speed, which took place in August of this year. It’s been a while between racetracks, so get ready race fans, Sandown’s going to be mega! Josh LowingMotorclassica 2018 (12-14 October) was graced with a superb line-up of Grand Prix cars that competed in Australian Grands Prix over the decades from the late 1920s to the early 1980s.

Among them was the ex. Ron Townley Lago. Ron kindly accepted the invitation from Event Director, Paul Mathers to be the Honorary Judge for the Racing Cars classes at the event (the first time in the event’s nine year history did it have such a class). He was joined by Bob King and Charles Rogers (pictured with him).Other notable appearances at the show were the Repco-Brabham BT23E, which landed in the country the day prior to doors opening and was the last car to enter the building. Aaron Lewis (NSW) has just had a total re-build of the car completed by Hawker Engineering in the UK before sending it here (first time since it left our shores in the early 1970s and first time in its original guise of the 1968 Tasman spec). joined with it in the racing car segment of the display was the only Group 7 sports-racer Jack built, BT17 which is now in the hands of Nigel Tait.Charles Rogers.

The `Dyno’ Dave Bennett autobiography is one of the great success stories of the Australian high performance automotive industry. Fuelled by an innate interest in things mechanical, Dyno Dave was destined to work in an industry based on that interest. Over a lifetime of intense work he established one of the great Australian automotive businesses, Perfectune-Yella• Terra. From humble beginnings offering dynamometer based tuning services, the company grew and developed into a giant of the Australian aftermarket and indeed had considerable influence in the OEM market for more than 40 years. Along the way he established the enormously popular and successful Yella Terra brand, supplying
