Real Life Business Requirement
Contoso is big company employing people that are primarily working in shifts. Shift workers require a PC to fulfil their job and providing them one adds a significant amount of complexity and cost.
The IT department is looking for a solution to streamline this process, maintain fewer endpoints in the company, and still provide all the necessary tools for their shift workers by leveraging a VDI solutions. With this solution workers on each shift will log into the same few endpoints, access their own virtual desktop, and work as normal. At the end of the shift, they log off, head home, and can access their own unique desktop the next day.

Citrix Virtual Desktops Essentials is a cloud service designed specifically for managing and delivering Windows 10 Enterprisevirtual desktops on Azure. This new service harnesses the power of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops to simplify Windows 10 Enterprise migration, expedite Windows 10 Enterprise on Azure deployment and streamline on-going management at-scale while delivering a rich user experience.
Citrix Virtual Desktops Essentials is available exclusively in the Azure Marketplace giving Citrix and Microsoft customers a single transactional interface to manage the new Citrix Cloud service and Azure infrastructure side-by-side.

Components & Definitions
Citrix Cloud Subscription: Citrix Virtual Desktops Essentials is delivered through Citrix Cloud and helps deploying virtual desktops within Azure subscription with ease. Services like Studio, Delivery Controller and Workspace run in Citrix Cloud. A Citrix Cloud account is required to complete the on boarding process.
Cloud Connectors: Each Azure resource location must have two or more, which communicate with Citrix Cloud. Two Windows Server VMs at minimum must be created in Azure Resource Manager with the Cloud Connector installed on each server. This is not an automated task.
Master Image: Service uses a Windows Server Master Image to deploy Desktops containing all the applications that business needs for the users. Master Image is created in Azure for production environments and its used during Catalogue creation by Citrix Virtual Desktops Essentials.
AD Domain Controller: A Domain Controller is a server that runs a version of the Windows Server operating system and has Active Directory Domain Services installed. For redundancy purposes it is always recommended to implement two instances of Active Directory Domain Controllers.
Desktops: After a successful deployment service can deploy and securely deliver Microsoft Windows 10 virtual desktops running in Azure Infrastructure. Users can securely access the desktops on any device by using Citrix Workspace app.

Azure Virtual Machines
Azure Virtual Machines is one of several types of on-demand, scalable computing resources that Azure offers. Typically, a VM is chosen when you need more control over the computing environment than the other choices offer.
An Azure VM gives the flexibility of virtualization without having to buy and maintain the physical hardware that runs it. However, it is still needed to maintain the VM by performing tasks, such as configuring, patching, and installing the software that runs on it.
