Uptown Professionals Toastmasters Ahs and Ums: Filler Words Fellow toastmasters and honored guests, today I will be filling the role of the Ah Counter. The Ah Counter notes words and sounds used as a ‘crutch’ or ‘filler’ by anyone who speaks during the meeting. These would include, but not limited to: AND, WELL, BUT, SO, YOU KNOW, UM and repeated items. The Grammarian presents the ‘Word of the Day’ that is to be used throughout the meeting by our members—most especially our Table Topics Speakers. I will also provide a short report at the end of Table Topics on the use of the ‘Word of the Day’. At the end of the meeting I will also report on any Awkward or Interesting word usage.

Uptown Professionals ToastmastersTimer’s ReportFellow Toastmasters and honored guests, today I will be filling the role of the Timer. The Timer’s job is to help maintain order by the use of time limits and timing devices. I will be timing all aspects of the meeting.The Green signal will be displayed when the speaker’s minimum time has been reached.The Yellow signal will be displayed halfway through the time limit.The Red signal will be displayed when the speaker has reached their maximum allotted time. Each speaker has an additional 30 second grace period.I will provide a report of each speaker’s time when called upon to do so.
