Girls in Motion for HealthAll over the world, girls aren’t as active as boys. In Greenville, this lack of physical activity is a serious problem – according to research, female middle school students in our city exercise for 2–2.5h per week, while male students exercise for 4–4.5h. Sedentary life can lead to serious problems in adulthood, such as obesity and high blood pressure.

In order to encourage girls to move as much as boys, the Greenville Department of Health is launching the Girls in Motion for Health campaign. The posters and leaflets feature real girls doing sports and physical activities in general. We want to show that physical activities should be a natural part of a girl’s life and that they can be fun and enjoyable. Also, the campaign highlights the benefits of physical activity for girls’ health.

The campaign aims at girls aged 12–16, studying in schools in the Greenville school district. Posters and leaflets will be distributed at four middle schools and three high schools. P.E. teachers in these schools will have an app to work with the campaign in their classes.
