Goal: To perform, as a class, a reduced production of Romeo and Juliet which will be judged in a competition with other classes completing the same task.

Due: ________

Instructions: Students will be divided into groups of five, each with the task of scripting, staging, and performing one of the five acts in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This can be done in its traditional setting of Verona or in an alternate context. As a class, students will make this decision at the start of the assignment. Each group will be responsible for writing a 3-5 minute script for their act and then planning the manner in which the act will be performed. Consideration for movement, props, and special effects must be discussed and arranged by each group.

Timeline: Scripts will be due by the end of the lesson on Monday; each member must have a copy of the script. On Tuesday groups will be practicing their individual acts. Our block lesson will be used for dress rehearsals and the performances will be Friday. Performances will be judged by Mr. Hock and Mr. Mason. Students will be responsible for writing critical reviews of the class competing against them.
