BackgroundThese photographs are to record part of the Gardens Trust’s ‘Sharing Repton: Historic Landscapes for All’ project, with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The heritage sector struggles to engage with diverse audiences, and this is particularly acute amongst voluntary groups such as the County Gardens Trusts, who are dramatically dominated by the affluent white over-60s. Sharing Repton: Historic Landscapes for All aims to pilot 5 audience development activities designed to engage more diverse audiences with historic parks and gardens, most specifically but not exclusively BAME people. It will use these as the basis of substantial skill sharing, networking and training to help others in the sector feel inspired and confident to repeat similar activities.

Shoot detailsActivity: Facilitated family excursion for c40 guests from the Victoria Centre (adults and children)Where: Wicksteed Park, KetteringDate: 8th September 2018Time: 11.30-2.30pm

Purpose of photographsThis excursion is one of the 5 pilot audience development activities and we would like to record it for use in presentations and other training materials, as well as for promotional purposes by the Gardens Trust, Wicksteed Park and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Photographs will be used in powerpoints, Word documents, printed literature, online and social media.

ContentWith their mixed-use in mind, we need photographs to include informative ‘how to’ shots (eg how to make a paper boat, helping children off the coach, how to arrange guests around the table) as well as inspirational ‘brand’ shots (eg happy family with volunteer in landscape). We are particularly looking for shots that show diverse people (particularly non-White ethnicity, under-60s), but would also like some that show different diversities mixing (eg mature white volunteer with Asian child). This project specifically relates to historic parks and gardens, so we will need that context in at least some photos. Key features of historic landscapes to be aware of are lakes, mature trees, fountains, statues, flower beds, open grass, gates.

StylePlease aim for a colourful, bright, optimistic style, but one that reflects the genuine diversity of modern society (ie grubby faces and cheap picnics are fine – we do not need to see the kind of glossy family normally used for adverts!)

PermissionsAll guests and volunteers will need to complete photograph permission forms – this will be organised by event organisers, but we will give the photographer copies of the forms in case of difficulties. Guests or volunteers who have requested not to have their photographs taken will be given a red sticker to wear.

Copyright: The Gardens Trust, County Gardens Trusts, Wicksteed Park and Heritage Lottery Fund need to be able to use these photographs for perpetuity within publicity and training materials, including supplying them to external media. We are happy to seek a photographer credit where possible.
