The story before The Lorax helpers

We all know Dr. Seuss. And we all should know Lorax. The nice creature who take care of our beautiful planet.

Ted Wiggins in an idealistic 12-year-old boy who lives in "Thneed-Ville", a walled city that, aside from the citizens, is completely artificial: everything is made of plastic, metal, or synthetics. Ted manages to find his way outside of the city, finding out where much of the city's waste and contaminants are, and an empty wasteland filled with tree stumps, and broken-down equipment. Through the path he meet Lorax, the nice creature who take care of our planet. And complete the mission of bringing a seed of the last true tree to the city and show people that there is still hope for our planet.

Come with us and save the world with helping Lorax!

What we are building?

An educational virtual quiz for kids. We create an App that will educate children on how to sort trash and recycle to inspire the next generation to improve the global waste problem.- First part = The App will make use of scanned images of

packaging. The users will be asked to reply 3 questions about recycling the packaging to score points;

- Second part = The users will be able to earn awards for completing a certain number of games.

The award for successful completion: tree seed to plant

The app functionality:The game is accessible via phone application;The user takes an item (bottle, food package) user uses and start the game by scanning the bar-code on it;The app recognizes the code and finds appropriate questions for the recyclable item;There are 3 questions for each item;If the user answers correctly all 3 questions, the user gets points;

Page 3: hackthewaste.com€¦ · Web viewLow marketing costs (mainly social media) Available on phone (no need for specific gaming stations) We. aknesses: No strong media (TV and magazines)

If the user answers incorrectly all 3 questions, the user gets no points; When the user has collected a certain amount of points, there is award waiting (seed of truffula) :) :)

Lean Canvas

Business model

The application is built for the educational process for kids to work together with parents and teachers. The business model is a non-profit organization funded by the government, recycling companies and other stakeholders.

Industry analysis

The gaming industry is very wide. There are quite a lot of educational games for kids about recycling accessible online and around 20 more in apps:

- Quizzes (www.sciencekids.co.nz/recycling.html)- Sorting games

(your.caerphilly.gov.uk/kidsgogreen/fun-zone/rubbish-challenge)- Racing games (www.playtruckgames.net/file.php?f=1143)- Growing games (www.groplay.com/apps/grow-recycling/)- Trivia (www.proprofs.com/quiz-school/story.php?title=reduce-

reuse-recycle)

Page 4: hackthewaste.com€¦ · Web viewLow marketing costs (mainly social media) Available on phone (no need for specific gaming stations) We. aknesses: No strong media (TV and magazines)

However, none are applications with scanning functionality as The Lorax Helpers application. The scanning of the package of the product is the main attraction of the game - more involvement from the user side.

SWOT analysis:Strengths:

- Kids love to play games- Game is for free - access to more people- Low production costs (limited budget)- Low marketing costs (mainly social media)- Available on phone (no need for specific gaming stations)

Weaknesses:- No strong media (TV and magazines) marketing campaign - possibly

fewer users- Very simple content - might get boring fast if the content is not

various enough- Limited budget for the production of the app

Opportunities:- The more kids will become aware of the waste management, the more

adults will become aware - spread ideas- Attract users through schools/teachers- If the game is well used, could attract more funding and make it more

dynamic and interesting for kids and adults- Users can participate in growing the database of the packaging

picturesThreats:

- Lack of funding in case of poor marketing and sales work- Other similar games on recycling already there- The original The Lorax movie owner will not support the idea- We might need to pay a lot for using The Lorax pics and ideas

Customer needs

- USERS: Children from EU and USA are undereducated about which options of recycling that may exist!)

- SUPPORTERS: governmental institutions (schools), recycling companies, a happy parent who can use the game as part of learning children about recycling.

- We offer the way for parents to introduce children to less harmful Apps but still allow them to use technology

Risks

1.Children are exposed to phone addiction at a young age

Page 7: hackthewaste.com€¦ · Web viewLow marketing costs (mainly social media) Available on phone (no need for specific gaming stations) We. aknesses: No strong media (TV and magazines)

2.With the app, no action is taken to improve recycling directly

3.Our target audience can be suspected of spending parents money

4.The impact on overall global waste will be seen over longer period - even generations

5.If the marketing campaign is not good enough, there is no interest from financers and no further funding

6.The product needs to be updated all the time with new content, otherwise, it will not have long term users

7.The consumers not uploading new pictures of different packaging in order to help us make a better application with a growing database
