BBC 500 Words Short Story Competition 19 th January 2018 Dear Parents and Carers, BBC Radio 2’s popular 500 words short story competition has returned for 2018! Last year, three children in the school advanced to the next stage of the competition, which was a fantastic achievement. This year, we would like even more children to take part! There are two age categories, 5-9 and 10-13 years, meaning almost everyone in the school can enter. We launched the competition in a special assembly on Monday and some classes took part in a live lesson which encouraged creativity and allowed children to begin planning their entries. In the coming weeks, the children will be encouraged to write and submit their entries from home (submission must be completed online, with the help of an adult). The BBC are also offering exciting prizes, so please do get involved and remember to submit the final drafts by 7.00pm on Thursday 22nd February 2018. Additional information, resources for inspiration and planning stories and submission guidelines can be found on the BBC Radio 2 website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00rfvk1 ) and inspirational writing stimuli can be found on Literacy Shed (http://www.literacyshed.com/ ) or Pobble (http://www.pobble365.com/ ). Remember, the best source of ideas and language comes from reading a wide variety of stories so please encourage daily reading at home. Get writing! Many thanks, Mr. Kenward

BBC 500 Words Short Story Competition

19th January 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

BBC Radio 2’s popular 500 words short story competition has returned for 2018!

Additional information, resources for inspiration and planning stories and submission guidelines can be found on the BBC Radio 2 website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00rfvk1) and inspirational writing stimuli can be found on Literacy Shed (http://www.literacyshed.com/) or Pobble (http://www.pobble365.com/). Remember, the best source of ideas and language comes from reading a wide variety of stories so please encourage daily reading at home.

Get writing!

Many thanks,

Mr. Kenward
