Hands-on Part of the Project. Your challenge is to become a re-photographer. Re- photographers are a strange breed of photographer who thrive on the challenge of recreating images made by famous photographers. They try to find the same objects, subjects, kind of lighting, time of day, angles, etc. as in the original image. Your challenge is to pick two images done by the photographer you studied and recreate them as faithfully as possible (that is without breaking any laws, endangering yourself or others, etc.). You must choose two images, make a plan (how, when, where, what help you will need) and then take at least six exposures of each scene you create (12 images total). Use a camera with film (not digital) and include the negatives when you hand in your project. No computer retouching (except photocopying or scanning to transform a colour image into a black and white image). Choose whichever image is the most successful and plan to display that in class. You will also need to write a 500 word report in which you discuss your choice of images, what the challenges were in planning and setting up the pictures, and how using cameras with film is a different experience than using the digital technologies we are all so used to. How would your relationship to and use of photography in your everyday life be different if digital photography suddenly ceased to exist? Papers must be typed and proofread and are due the day of the vernissage.

Hands-on Part of the Project.

Your challenge is to become a re-photographer. Re-photographers are a strange breed of photographer who thrive on the challenge of recreating images made by famous photographers.
