Project Proposal

Objectives:

The objective of the project is: To improve the livelihoods of Kirangare Village. To create employment opportunities for the people in the Kirangare village and

surrounding villages to satisfy social and economic needs. To identify available resources to be used on the project. To identify the challenges facing groups in the community on food security and how to

improve farming and other trades. To educate against corruption on donor funding and to be transparent by providing

donors with quarterly reports.

Proposing OrganizationGHO Tanzania is a Non-Profit Organization which is organized as a charitable religious organization with its purpose of serving at-risk children and families, educating every child and providing an avenue where no child or family goes to bed hungry in a sustainable way. Our focus is partnering with other NGOs to reduce poverty, provide clean drinking water and to help educate the community about conservation of the forest.

Problem Statement Kirangare village is mountainous area with a soil full of stones which has affected food production in the area.

Achievement of the proposed objectives To archive the proposed objectives, GHO Tanzania will cooperate with the local government to emphasise the importance of the project to the community and other CBOs in the area. GHO Tanzania will be the key point to supervise and maintain the projects implementation and though out the project cycle.

Sector under which project is proposedThe project is proposed to be implemented in Kilimanjaro region where there GHO Tanzania has seen that there is a need in a particular project. Location

Kirangare village is located in Kilimanjaro region; it is in the same district as Pare Mountain. It is 40km from Hedaru the main road from Arusha to Dar es Salaam.

Measurement of success of the project

GHO Tanzania will measure the success of the project by examining the Improvement of economic status of individual and group member in general, examine the number of people who engaged in the different groups from the initial point to the end of the project, GHO will also assess the impact on communities in reducing hunger among targeted households.

This budget is done to correspond with activities as developed from the major three outputs. The fourth output is for administrative duties and monitoring and evaluation responsibilities.

Output: Agricultural value chain analysis conducted and suitable value chains identified and developed targeting1839HHs.

Output target: # of groups/institutions practicing diversified crop production.

The project has identified 4 suitable local agricultural value chains through a value chain baseline and indicators analysis and is going to be supporting community groups in developing milk, poultry, batik, maize and bee keeping to improve livelihoods. 200 farmers will be trained on the essentials in financial management and Income generating activities (IGAs).

GHO has identified the most feasible value chains that households and farmer groups are engaging in through a baseline value chain analysis. The Value chain report identified Maize, Milk, poultry, Batik and Bee keeping as the most viable projects. 80% of the 1839 Households which is (1471) are involved in one value chain or another.

Six hundred caregivers will be trained on basic nutrition, through community trainings. The caregivers gain knowledge on nutritious foods that will be beneficial to children. 600 caregivers will enhance skills on postharvest management and methods of food preservation. The project will undertake a value chain baseline survey in which priority value chains will be identified and recommended for development. The project will support the community to develop these value chains with the partnership of the County government and other stake holders.

Partnerships

The project in Partnership with the ministry of Agriculture livestock and fisheries, Vision Fund, Tanzania dairy board, Tanzania Forest service, Ministry of Public health and the Tanzania cereals board will conduct training for the various CBOs and community members.

Through partnership with Agricultural Support Development Project (ASDSP), Equity bank and 23 other stakeholders, the project will be able to hold an Agricultural field day through which 300 community members will be reached with information on value chain development. The field day will have a theme “investing in modern technology for enhanced food security and income generation” This will enhance the skills of farmers who will be able to make contacts with suppliers of various goods and services. Through participation in the Field day, farmer groups will be introduced to how best to grow sweet potatoes and cassava.

GHO TZ will be in partnerships with local government and the communityGHO in partnership with the local government will be responsible for educating the community and encouraging people to get involved in different economic group activities. GHO will also be responsible for providing and conducting deferent practical trainings to the community. GHO will be responsible for implementing and supervising the whole project from the initial stage up to the delivery stage of project by providing adequate information and support to the community

Output 2: Increased crop production and diversification, value addition, utilization and

marketing of agricultural produce for 200 farmers and 7 institutions in Sub-locations

Output target: Number of groups/institutions practicing diversified crop production.

Source of fund:

GHO will need donor funding to construct 6 greenhouses, refrigeration for storing fresh milk, administrative cost and training, monitoring and evaluation. The CBOs will united and form groups to contribute money at every meeting which will be a (bi-weekly meetings) in order to strengthen their projects to help improve livelihoods of the community and the surrounding villages. Sustaining these projects is most important to improving the needs of the village. There is also a plan to infuse microfinance to group member who want to start their own project. There will be a low interest loan to the group that meets the criteria.

14 % (205HH) are involved in maize Value chain. 200 HH will be planted on 2.5acres per HH to 3.5 acres in total. 200 new Acres for 200 HH. This will be the first hybrid maize seed for the first harvest; the farmers will use the proceeds for the next farming season.

PROJECT SUSTEINABILITY To ensure the sustainability of this project, GHO Tanzania will be conducting a field visit to every project, monitoring and evaluation projects to ensure proper utilization of resources as well as transparence.

Maintenance of assets All assets owned by the GHO organization will be kept on GHO compound to make sure assets are safe. Inventory on all equipments will be maintained and audited quarterly and quarterly reports will be given to the GHO board including financial reports.

Beneficiaries Four churches with over 1500 households will be benefiting from this project where all church members will be having the same opportunity of participating in the project.

The selection of the groups depends on the interest of an individual person who are willing to initiate the groups and start investing in the group are the once who formed the group and started it. The current target is in the whole village. The expansion will be as per need.
