“Hands-on Virtual Molding” puts process simulation across

Many interested visitors came by the SIGMA stand during K 2016 and experienced “Hands-

on Virtual Molding” firsthand. With the support of numerous project partners and with various

industrial application examples SIGMA demonstrated the possibilities of its SIGMASOFT®

Virtual Molding technology for the whole product development process.

K 2016 successful for SIGMA

Aachen, November 8th – During the eight days of the show many interested visitors came by

the stand of SIGMA Engineering GmbH and caught up on the latest news for the

SIGMASOFT® Virtual Molding technology. “Ursula”, the LSR carry mesh for bottles, produced

in cooperation with 2 Komponenten Maschinenbau, CVA Silicone, ENGEL and Momentive

was not the only temptation. Additionally, the motto “Hands-On Virtual Molding” attracted

visitors. “The segmentation into the fields design, tooling and production made visitors feel

directly addressed. Everybody could identify his own field of action at our stand and thus

clearly see the benefit of using SIGMASOFT® Virtual Molding”, explains Thomas Klein,

Executive Manager of SIGMA.

To not only address visitors over the different fields of action during the product development

process, a range of projects from different applications and materials was presented at the

SIGMA stand. AVS Römer and Barlog Gruppe each provided a plastic mold, of which the

evaluation with SIGMASOFT® Virtual Molding was equally displayed as was a project of F. &

G. Hachtel, where the focus lay on mold design and part warpage.

The international SIGMA team also presented the calculated results for a two-component

eggcup made of LSR. The eggcup was produced at the Momentive stand on a refitted one-

component machine in a 4+4-cavity mold by Elmet. The dimensioning of adaptable unit and

mold was supported by SIGMA prior to the show. “The commitment of our project partners

essentially contributed to the fair being a complete success for us. With their help we could

display a wide range of possible applications for SIGMASOFT®”, says Thomas Klein.

Another highlight during the show was the SIGMA customer event. Here SIGMASOFT® users

could not only swap ideas with the SIGMA developers, but also receive firsthand information

on current development topics. The outlook on DOE and autonomous optimization was

surely one of the most interesting topics for the attendees.

SIGMA® (www.sigmasoft.de) is 100% owned by MAGMA® (www.magmasoft.de), the world market leader in casting process simulation technology based in Aachen, Germany. Our SIGMASOFT® Virtual Molding technology optimizes the manufacturing process for injection molded plastic components. SIGMASOFT® Virtual Molding combines the 3D geometry of the parts and runners with the complete mold assembly and temperature control system and incorporates the actual production process to develop a turnkey injection mold with an optimized process.

At SIGMA® and MAGMA®, our goal is to help our customers achieve required part quality during the first trial. The two product lines – injection molded polymers and metal castings – share the same 3D simulation technologies focused on the simultaneous optimization of design and process. SIGMASOFT® Virtual Molding thus includes a variety of process-specific models and 3D simulation methods developed, validated and constantly improved for over 25 years. A process-driven simulation tool, SIGMASOFT® Virtual Molding provides a tremendous benefit to production facilities. Imagine your business when every mold you build produces required quality the first time, every time. That is our goal. This technology cannot be compared to any other simulation approach employed in plastics injection molding.

New product success requires a different communication between designs, materials, and processes that design simulation is not meant for. SIGMASOFT® Virtual Molding provides this communication. SIGMA® support engineers, with 450 years of combined technical education and practical experience, can support your engineering goals with applications specific solutions. SIGMA® offers direct sales, engineering, training, implementation, and support, by plastics engineers worldwide.
