Riverside Theatres’ Beyond the Square presents LOST & FOUND Wednesday 16 November 2016 at 11am ABOUT RIVERSIDE THEATRES AND BEYOND THE SQUARE Riverside Theatres supports access to the arts for people with disability. Through talking to people and putting the ideas into action we aim to increase the opportunities for everyone to get involved in the performing arts. We strive to do this through Participation, Artist Development and Audience Access. Riverside Theatres’ Beyond the Square program is the foundation of Participation and aims to develop a sense of community, a place where people feel they belong and have a say. It supports existing and new social networks through performance workshops and events. The program offers participants a chance to play, explore and build their confidence. It is also a program for creating opportunities for people with disabilities to gain new skills and extend themselves in performance and theatre making. The program encourages people to develop as artists and provides strong skills based experience, alongside professional artists. Riverside is also working to provide relevant access to people with a range of disabilities to the artistic products they want to see, as well as programming professional work by artists with disability.

PROGRAM NOTES

Have you ever lost something? How about someone? Did you find it? Along the way, did you find more than you were searching for? This year we’ve examined the concept of ‘Lost & Found’ and the feelings and emotions that accompany with this process. Through group discussions and collaborative exercises we have explored ideas around ability, purpose, recognition, friendship, love, connection, story and magic. Today’s performance combines

stage and screen to connect six unique and special stories in this spectacular production. It’s been a tremendous joy putting Lost & Found together. The participants, carers and staff have worked hard to devise ideas, workshop and rehearse performance material, as well as to create a cohesive work across six different classes. It’s inspiring and satisfying to see what all the participants are willing and able to offer. From clowning to movement, improvisation to screen acting, we are able to explore how theatre and expression can transcend artistic challenges and create community.

We hope you find something in today’s performance that you didn’t know you were looking for!
