19 On the evening of that first day of the week, the disciples were together behind locked doors because of their fear of the Jews. Jesus came, stood among them, and said to them, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. So the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. (John 20:19-20)

What are you afraid of? One of the kids at school? Your boss’ reaction at work? The upcoming doctor’s appointment? Talking about Jesus?

All of these things can make us afraid. The one thing in common is that we’re not sure what the reaction is going to be once we’re there. The disciples were afraid, too. It’s Easter evening. Jesus had been crucified. Jesus’ body was gone. Some were saying they had seen him alive. It was all so unnerving!“Peace be with you!” Jesus is the one who takes away all fear. Even if we still have to deal with the bully, the boss, the diagnosis and hostile reactions when we speak the good news of Jesus, there is still peace.

Fear is caused by sin. Peace is ours by grace. Fear comes naturally. Peace is an amazing gift. Fear is what we deserve because of our sin. Peace is what we

have because Jesus is alive.Even as a congregation, there have been things that made us afraid. We wondered about the staff at school. God’s grace has supplied us with teachers! We wonder how to meet our obligations. God’s grace supplies all that we need through hearts he moves to joyously and cheerfully give for his work. The list could go on and on, and each of you reading this could add even more from your own list of fears. Easter gives us the answer to all our fears, concerns and worries: He is risen! He is risen, indeed! Along with the disciples, we rejoice as we see the Lord in Word and Sacrament. The Visitor Page 1 May 2018

“Peace be with you!”Please join us at the next All Church Meeting on May 14th @ 6:30PM. We begin with Bible study, and continue with member input, council reports, and committee meetings. . This month’s “But Why?” question: “But why can’t I take communion?"

BIBLE STUDY OPPORTUNITIESAs summer approaches, we are wrapping up our studies in preparation for the summer break. Just because

our formal studies stop for a while, doesn’t mean our need for God’s Word stops! Don’t “vacation” from worship! The joy of our risen Savior is something we love to hear with our fellow Christians week after week!

Monthly Bible ReadingsThe Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan offers special features that will help you in your journey through the bible. By reading from four separate places in the Scripture every day, you should be able to better grasp the unity of the Scriptures, as well as enjoy the variety of seeing four different viewpoints.

Don’t become frustrated if you fall behind. Each month lists only twenty-five readings. That offers several “free days” each month for catch up if they are needed. Here are the passages for MAY.

approaches we often reflect on the past and look to the future. We can look at all of the activities and accomplishments of our students this past year and thank the Lord for giving them the ability to learn and grow. We can look to the future with a certain amount of anticipation and excitement as significant changes to our programming, facility, and faculty will be taking place. We will be expanding our pre-school program to five half days per week with separate 3k and 4k classrooms. We will be remodeling a room and moving our library. We will welcome Mr. Nate Livingston as our new principal and grade seven and eight teacher, Mr. Timothy Voigt as our grade five and six teacher and athletic director, and Mrs. Amy Cook as our second pre-school teacher. One thing that has existed in the past and will exist in the future is God’s love and grace. Despite our sinful shortcomings God has and will continue to bless those who confess Jesus as their Savior. As long as we keep that as our mission the Lord will bless Christ- St. John’s Lutheran School.
