ISSUE 10 – Summer 2018

The 2018 Annual General MeetingThe club’s Annual General Meeting took place on Tuesday 20 March 2018 in the Village Hall at

Hinxworth.  At the meeting the Chairman’s Cup was awarded to Derek for his many years dedication

in maintaining the club’s equipment in good order. The GNAS Handicap Improvement medal was

awarded to Stephen Colegrove.

Hertfordshire Archery Association Winter League Results

The final scores for the Winter Leagues were submitted at the end of March with the result that in the

indoor Portsmouth competition our Recurve team were in 6th place in Division 1, our Longbow and

Compound teams were both in 1st place and our Juniors were in 5th place. 

In the outdoor Frostbite competition our Compound team was in 1st place, our Recurve and Longbow teams were both in 2nd place.

Well done all Hinxworth archers who came out to shoot in the cold and damp over the Winter season to provide scores for the leagues.

Beginners

All beginners completed the course on Wednesday 5 May. New members Ben and Jack have been putting in scores under the Hertfordshire Archery Association Junior badge scheme: Ben has achieved his green and white Under16 badges and Jack his green Under14 badge. A warm welcome to all Beginners who have joined the Club this year.

HYP ‘Have-a-go’

David O, Marianne, Rob and Kath ran a ‘Have-a-go’ session for Hinxworth Young People (HYP) on 15 June. Around 10 children took part with a number showing keenness and ability.

Having a ‘field day

Sunday 12 August saw David W., Derek, Dave C., Ben and Steve W. in the woods with Avalon Archers at Sandy participating in a Field Archery shoot.

Hertfordshire Summer League 2018

Our Recurves first away match this year against Hertford in May was a loss for Hinxworth, however, our June match away at Bishops Stortford finished with a win as did our third match at home on the Rec. against Howard Bowmen. Our penultimate match in August at Royston was a narrow defeat for Hinxworth archers so it now all depends on our final home fixture to Abbey Bowmen from St. Albans on 23 September. Our Compound and Longbow teams have won all of their matches so far and lead the tables with 6 points from three matches.
