Inputting text in regional language Text input can be done in other regional languages by doing certain settings initially. Do the following setting to enable inputting text in regional languages. Step 1: Installing ibus Install the following software from Ubuntu software centre. To do the installation, search for the software in Ubuntu software centre and click install. ibus-m17n Ibus-table-extraphrase ibus-gtk Ibus-gtk3 Ibus-qt4 Ibus-table ibus-clutter Step 2: Language support setting Search for ‘Language support’ in the search bar of Ubuntu. Inputting text in regional language

Text input can be done in other regional languages by doing certain settings initially. Do the following setting to enable inputting text in regional languages.

Step 1: Installing ibus Install the following software from Ubuntu software centre. To do the installation, search for the software in Ubuntu software centre and click install.

Step 2: Language support setting Search for ‘Language support’ in the search bar of Ubuntu.

After checking the available languages, a dialogue box opens up. Click on ‘Install/ Remove languages’

In the window that opens up, select the required language by click on the check box against that language. Even you can select multiple languages at one sort. Once you completed selecting the languages, click on ‘Apply changes’. The selected languages gets added to the list.

The windows closes. Then in the language dialogue box, select ‘IBus’ from dropdown list for keyboard input method system.

Once these selection are done, click close.

Step 3: Text Entry setting Search for ‘Text Entry’ in the search bar of Ubuntu.

A dialogue box opens up. Click on the ‘+’ symbol.

This opens up a window listing various languages. Click the language which you want to add (language in which you want to type) and click Add.

This adds the languages in which you can enter text. Then close the window.

Step 4: Entering text Open your word processor file. Select the language in which you want to type. To select the language click on the

language icon at the top right of your screen.

This list the languages added in the text entry. Select the language and start typing in the text document.

To view the keyboard layout of the selected language, click on the language icon once again and click on the ‘Keyboard Layout Chart’. This displays the respective keyboard layout, you will assist you in identifying the keys related to typing the alphabets in the selected language. For example, if Hindi is selected, then the keyboard is displayed as below.

Note: This process of setting will allow you to type in regional language not only in the word processor but also anywhere, as the setting is done for Ubuntu.
