NET221 D- Project

In groups of four students, you will be doing a small network using a switch or router. You will need the following:

Two or Three laptops but must be connected to Switch or Router. The switch or router ( you can use your home router but without SIM). Three or more RJ-45 cables to connect each laptop to the switch (Wi-Fi

will not be accepted should be turned off). you may need to disable the firewall in order to allow the connection.

The network will be tested by: Performing a ping. Sharing folder (create a new folder and then share it during the discussion). Sharing printer (you do not need to bring your printer to the discussion just

illustrate the steps and show the screen-shots in the report). Use LAN messenger programs designed for LAN network to chat with

other devices in your network. Control other node using Remote Desktop application (from one laptop to

another one in your network using either Windows OS features or downloading a software).

Connect one of the devices to the internet and share this connection with other device.( only one device connected to the internet, other devices access the internet thru that device )

You have to present your small network to the teacher with your group.

You will need also to submit a report (4- 8 pages with the cover page) that include:

1- a brief introduction and description about how did you make the network,2- the physical topology used, 3- the tasks that you did during the communication, 4- the problems if any and how you solved them .

You need (for your report) to have screen shots to show the tasks with a brief description for each task. If you do some searching, you need to include it in the references.

You have to follow the following format in your report:

The paper must have cover page with the names of the group members and sections.

The font needs to be Times New Roman with size 12. Table of content should be at the beginning. The reference will be at the end. One page is enough for each task
