RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PLACEMENT – JORDANS CEREALS Role – We are looking for an individual, currently studying for a degree in food science or equivalent, who is interested in a future within the dynamic food industry. This twelve month placement will help you understand what new product development (NPD) is about and gain insight and experience on how to get products from ideas onto the supermarkets shelves, not just within the UK but also internationally. You will join the R&D team working specifically with Baked Cereals and Cereal Bars, supporting the development and trial process for Jordan’s as a student R&D technician. Requirements – A keen interest in food technology, nutrition and current food trends. Good communication skills and lots of enthusiasm. Location and Timings – You will be based at the Jordans & Ryvita Head Office, Market Garden Road, Biggleswade, SG18 8QB, and the Holme Mills Factory, Langford Road, Biggleswade, SG18 9JX , ideally you will have a full UK driving license for travel between sites and for external visits. The role will be a 12 month industrial placement. Key areas of learning during your placement: You will gain a detailed overview of how NPD works: starting with ideas from Marketing, Customers and Consumers or the R&D team’s own, right through to getting these products manufactured and available on the supermarkets shelves. To help you understand, you will learn about and help with the following: 1. Support R&D Technicians and/or Technologists with day to day tasks; 2. Developing recipes in line with commercial parameters, across all Jordans categories; 3. Prepare kitchen samples of recipes for project work and shelf life testing; 4. Arrange kitchen tasting sessions e.g. Internal taste panels/project tastings and taking part in taste panels; 5. Arranging, co-ordinating and completing factory trials; 6. Arrange analysis of nutritional samples and/or shelf life testing; 7. Understand what is needed for packaging such as artwork and legal requirements; 8. Working alongside quality, production and marketing teams on a day to day basis to meet project requirements.
