Overall purpose:

Working with the Mentoring Manager (West) in the delivery of volunteer mentoring programmes for young people aged 11-18, adults and families. Flexibility in this role is essential. You will be meeting people at various times to include after school or end of day/evenings. You will meet with families and introduce mentors to mentees on a regular basis. To include liaising with mentoring administrator and other staff members for data recording and performance measurement for bids. To work collaboratively with all team members and external agencies to achieve mentoring objective.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Recruit, train, support and manage volunteer mentors from a range of backgrounds. Attend support group meetings independently and alongside the Mentor Manager (West)

Allocate and attend mentor: mentee meetings

To attend or lead and support mentoring meetings and training as required

Liaise with administrator to maintain central mentor records – e.g. including DBS, mentor spreadsheet, volunteer hours, contacts database (AFR) etc.

Liaise with schools, Family Services, Social Care, CAMH’s and other partner agencies

Attend meetings with partner organisations

Research into other local contacts when queries arise from mentoring sessions

Liaise with Swingbridge Community Boats to book trips for mentee families

Monitor and assess mentors’ skills

Monitor, plan and work towards contract targets

General

All staff will be asked to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

NOTE: This job description is intended as a working document for the position outlined. It is not exhaustive but indicates the wide range of duties involved.

The job description will form part of the organisation’s performance management process and will be kept under continuous review to reflect the change and growth within the Trust.

Training

You will participate in the Surrey Care Trust Mentoring training and will need to complete other training provided by the Trust, Surrey County Council and other organisations, as required.

Location

This role will operate in Elmbridge and neighbouring boroughs, with other travel across Surrey, as required.

Travel (car mileage) can be reimbursed where it is located further than five miles from your address.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE

Qualifications

A level standard or equivalent National recognised relevant qualification, e.g. youth work, teaching, counselling or physchology.

Experience

Some experience of working with young people Experience of working with professionals supporting children and families, using a shared family approach.

Some experience of working in an organisational/administrative capacity

Experience of working in a charity and/or with volunteers or of working with education

Good standard of computer literacy, particularly in Word and Excel

Skills & knowledge

Able to relate confidently to both adult volunteers, parents and young people

Flexible in approach , able to use initiative and work without day to day supervision

ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE

Able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing

Has good planning, administrative and organisational skills and is able to work independently

Safeguarding awareness or training An understanding of the Surrey Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub and the levels of need.

An understanding of the Early Help Assessment pathway and ‘Early Help’ module.

An understanding of recognising the need for assessment, planning, intervention and reviewing in a restorative way in relation to support young people/families.

Other

Car driver with a current valid driving licence living within commutable distance of Elmbridge, Surrey.

Willing to work flexibly including occasional unsocial hours

Willing to travel throughout Elmbridge and Surrey as required
