Picture

Militarism- this image matches with this term because militarism was a driving force for both of the World Wars. Militarism is the use of military power to fulfill national needs, in some cases it was used to conquer nations and in others it was used to defend them.

Alliances- the picture I chose relates to the term because alliances, in both World Wars, made the wars truly global since the alliances tied other countries that were not directly affected by the wars, into the wars.

Trench Warfare- trench warfare is related to this picture not only because it was the primary tactic of fighting during World War I but it was also a very poor environment yet many people lived and fought in the trenches. The trenches were not only examples of new technologies combining with old tactics but they were also symbols of nationalism due to the fact that people would throw themselves into dangerous and poor environments for their countries. This picture provides a visual of how the trenches were and what soldiers had to live in for months at a time.

Guerrilla Warfare- guerrilla warfare was an important part of World War II, it finally utilized new tactics for the new technologies that came during the first World War. This image shows a group of soldiers but unlike World War I pictures, it does not show soldiers in trenches but in the forest, this image provides how that change occurred, from old to new tactics.

Blank Check- the blank check image shows how Germany was supportive to Austria Hungary in World War I and it expresses the idea that alliances were strong and that there were few things that would get between two countries in an alliance.

Ultimatum- an ultimatum is a final statement that may include consequences and a demand, in the case of the picture, Germany declared war on Russia and it kick-started the first World War.

Annexation- A leader cause of World War I was the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The image shows that both of those places had high Serb populations, this may help explain why the annexation of them created even stronger tensions between Serbia and Austria Hungary, the same tension that led to World War I.

Fascism- the image that was chosen for fascism did not provide examples of fascism but instead captured the ideas and actions that created fascism. By understanding fascism it is easy to understand why many countries opposed Nazi Germany during World War II. Fascism is a government with a dictator and it is very corrupt, indoctrination, lying to the people, and corruption facilitate in the protection of a dictator in power. Rights are disobeyed and certain races are seen as inferior, or one race is superior to all the rest. Fascism, which also contains a strong nationalistic attitude, was the motivation for Nazi Germany to attempt to expand. The fascism in Germany was born from the remnants of World War I.

Propaganda- the image for propaganda is a type of infographic that lists important characteristics that propaganda share. The image does take on a negative image of propaganda that makes it seem as though it is used only for deceiving people, which it can be used for, but the other characteristics found in it can appear in positive propaganda. Positive propaganda does not deceive readers but instead unites them in a certain cause, this was important in rallying people to enlist in the army of different nations during the World Wars and it encouraged woman and children to aid in the war too.

Depression- in this image, depression is not a psychological problem but is instead economic weakness. The Great Depression started between World War I and led into World War II. The image shows how unemployment was common in the United States and financial crisis for many people was a problem. World War II helped end the Great Depression because many jobs opened up in the war effort this brought more money to people of all classes and balanced out money and power between all of the classes.
