First Lego League: Junior On Saturday May 18, 2013, Prudence Learning Center held its First Lego League event and the students did an amazing job! They were able to work together in order to create a telephone that would better assist the seniors within our community. Along with their verbal presentation, the students were able to present a physical model of their invention which was made solely of Legos. Thank you to all who came to support our future scientists. We would also like to thank our Seniors who were a part of this particular project. Reading Room: Prudence Learning Center’s Reading Room has officially begun as of June 3, 2013. This program will allow your child to become more comfortable with reading to themselves and aloud. While in the Reading Room, students are given a two hour time period which allows them to catch up on assigned summer reading. First Lego League: Junior

On Saturday May 18, 2013, Prudence Learning Center held its First Lego League event and the students did an amazing job! They were able to work together in order to create a telephone that would better assist the seniors within our community. Along with their verbal presentation, the students were able to present a physical model of their invention which was made solely of Legos.Thank you to all who came to support our future scientists. We would also like to thank our Seniors who were a part of this particular project.

Reading Room:Prudence Learning Center’s Reading Room has officially begun as of June 3, 2013. This program will allow your child to become more comfortable with reading to themselves and aloud.

While in the Reading Room, students are given a two hour time period which allows them to catch up on assigned summer reading. Also, within this two hour time period, students will work one-on-one with a Reading Coordinator who will help them better their pronunciation and comprehension skills. Chess Championship

Prudence Learning Center would like to give a big round of applause to Dashar El-Amin of Tussing Elementary (fourth grade) and Joshua Parish of Columbus Academy (fifth grade). These gentlemen were able to place in the 2013 Ohio Elementary State Chess Championship. Job well done!

Quarterly Classes

Here at PLC we offer quarterly course that will help develop the minds of your students. Fortunately, this is an exciting time to be a part of Prudence Learning Center, because we have three different courses currently taking place that may interest you and your student! Our summer courses include Algebra I and II, Geometry and Video Game Design I and II.

Algebra I and II will allow students to learn the major principles of Algebra and become more comfortable with math in general which, in return, will assist students throughout the rest of their career. And, an added treat, parents are now able to participate in these Algebra course with no extra charge. The Geometry course is designed to introduce major geometric principles as well as review and solidify previously learned algebraic principles. And, lastly, the Video Game Design I and II course is that will teach students to obtain the essential skills in order to design their very own video game by using Clickteam Software.

Times and Dates:

Algebra II: July 8-11 and July 15-18. 6:00pm – 8:00pm (MWF)

Geometry: July 22-25 and July 29-Aug 1. 6:00pm – 8:00pm (MWF)

Video Game Design I: MWF. 9:00am – 4:00pm

Video Game Design II: MWF. 9:00am – 4:00pm

4th Annual CORI Robotics Invitational

On Saturday June 22, 2013, between 10am-6pm, the 4th annual FIRST, Connect a Million Minds Cori Robotics Invitational took place at Dublin Coffman High school. This one day event showcased robots created and operated by 30 different teams of high school students from central Ohio and surrounding areas.

High school students were given the opportunity to work with professional engineering and science mentors for over six weeks to build their team’s robots. These robots were as big as 5 feet tall and weighed around 120 pounds. As part of the competition, the robots competed in a game by the name of Ultimate Ascent, which was based on the game Ultimate Frisbee. During this game, the robots were to flip Frisbees into designated targets.

This event was extremely fun and full of energy! Please, continue to follow us for more information on this year’s winners as well as next year’s competition.

PLC is offering 2013-2014 Training Courses for Math, Science, Tech and Engineering, Computers, and College Prep! Also, coming soon, PLC will have Bio, Chemistry and Physics labs. For specific dates and fees please contact Cynthia Pugh.

Saturday August 3, 2013, is a very important date to remember! Mayor Coleman’s Neighborhood Pride Program and Franklin County Children Services are coordinating a fun, family friendly event which will take place at the Columbus Commons. This will be the 5th annual FamJam and it is open and free to the public. At this event there will be free food, entertainment and games, but keep in mind, there is a price for parking at surrounding lots, meters and garages. Come down to support our city, Franklin County Children Services and local businesses. Hope to see you there!

Lastly, there is an upcoming Lego Building event that will be fun for all. Lego Building will take place at Prudence Learning Center at 1pm on Saturday August 17, 2013. You don’t want to miss this!
