Independent Activity:

Look at the word Jack. Use your phoneme (sound) finger to segment (break up the sounds) and blend (push sounds together) to read. Can you think of other words that also end with the ck digraph? Write a list of them. Add the sound buttons underneath each word.Look at the word sing. Use your phoneme finger to segment and blend to read. Can you think of other words that also end with the ng digraph? Write a list of them and add the sound buttons.

Challenge: Can you write a Golden sentence using some of the words in your lists?

This is about your child's comprehension and ability to order the story. What happened first, then, next and after etc?

Challenge: can you fold a piece of paper into a book and make your own version of Jack and the Beanstalk? As an author and illustrator you will need to include a picture and a sentence on each page.

Thursday

With Adult Help:Talk about the story and focus on what the characters might be thinking at different parts of the story. When characters speak, sometimes the words that they say are put into a speech bubble. If a character is thinking of something, sometimes their thoughts are put into a thought bubble.

Independent activityThink about what Jack might be saying as he looks up at the beanstalk. Have a go at writing a sentence. Maybe you could draw a speech bubble around it.

What do you think the Giant may be saying as he chases Jack?What do you think Jack is thinking?

Have a go at writing a speech bubble for the Giant and a thought bubble for Jack.

Challenge: What do you think Jack and his Mummy are thinking and saying at the end of the story?
