WHEREAS: Congratulations to Honorable Severlin Singleton III on his inauguration of his new career as a brilliant cinematographer. His first film, “Street Corner Symphony,” recently had its premier to capacity audiences. The film, featuring the photography of Dennis “Bull” Dottin and others, is a real tour de force that beautifully tells the story of the Riverside neighborhood in the 1960’s and 1970’s; and

WHEREAS: Singleton’s film captures a very special time in the march of history. It sheds sensitive light on how Cambridge’s Black community flourished during the Vietnam war years, civil rights era, and the evolution of popular soul music; and

WHEREAS: Without the vision and considerable technical skills of Judge Singleton, the photographic evidence of a very special era could have disappeared; now therefore be it

RESOLVED: That the Cambridge City Council go on record extending congratulations to Judge Singleton on his very enjoyable and challenging film. We do hope that the film will have many local showings so that all of Cambridge can have an opportunity to enjoy a special time in the history of Cambridge; and be it further
