BIRTHDAY OR CHRISTMAS LETTER

TO SET UP PAGE:

1. Open Microsoft Word 2007

2. On the Ribbon bar left click View and check that you are on Print Layout, while in View, check that Ruler has a tick in the box

TO INSERT A BORDER:

1. On the Ribbon Bar go to Page Layout.

2. Choose Page Borders; make sure that you are actually on page borders.

3. On the left hand side of the dialogue box, left click box.

4. Go to the Art box and press the drop down arrow, you will see a large range of borders, if you do not find one that you like you can go to the Style box and just put in lines.

5. You can use the Style, Colour, Width and Art for your Borders, watch the preview square to see how it will look on your page.

6. You can change the Colour on the Art borders, if the colour box is not greyed out, that means that you can change the border to any colour.

TO INSERT CLIP ART:

1. On the Ribbon Bar go to insert.

2. Choose clip art.

3. The dialogue box for CLIP ART will appear at the right of your work, type into the search box what you would like to put into your letter, try typing Flowers, then left click GO.

4. Left click the picture that you choose, it will then appear in your work.

5. If you cannot move your picture it will need formatting, select your picture by left clicking on it, left click on format, format only shows when the picture is selected. You will find format on the Ribbon Bar find text wrapping left click and then left click on square.

6. Have a look around the format bar, and see what else you can do with your picture; you have many options.

7. Put your pointer onto the picture when you see a four-sided arrow in your picture that means that, you can move it to where you would like it.

8. You can make your picture larger or smaller, by using the doubled sided arrow that appears at the corner or middle of your picture when it is selected.

9. Use the corner boxes first to change the size of your picture; as using the middle boxes makes the picture to elongate.

TO INSERT WORD ART:

1. On the Ribbon Bar go to Insert.

2. Find Word Art.

3. Left click drop down arrow and choose what you would like to use.

4. When the Dialogue Box appears, choose what font you would like to use, type in your message (i.e. Happy Birthday), click ok.

5. The Word Art will appear in your letter.

6. If it needs to be formatted make sure that it is selected, click format on the ribbon bar, find text wrapping, square, and press ok.

7. While you are on the format bar have a look around at everything that you can do with your Word Art, as long as you Word Art is selected you can do everything you want.

TO INSERT TEXT BOX FOR NAME AND ADDRESS:

1. On the Ribbon Bar go to Insert.

2. Find Text Box.

3. Left click drop down arrow and choose draw text box. (This is at the bottom of the dialogue box).

4. Type into to the Text Box, spacing your Text and Lines as you want them to appear on the page.

5. Do not forget to Text Wrap as you might not be able to move it if it is not formatted.

6. You can change the Text Colour, Font, or Size, by selecting the text and going to Home on the Ribbon Bar.

7. When you have done that, select your Text Box, and choose Format from the Ribbon Bar, have a look at what else you can do with your text box.

8. To delete the lines around the Text Box, select the text box and then go to Format on the Ribbon Bar, and choose shape outline, press no outline and the Text box will disappear.

TO SET UP PAGE

1. Open Microsoft Word 2007

2. On the Ribbon bar left click View and check that you are on Print Layout also check that Ruler has a tick in the box

3. On the Ribbon Bar go to Page Layout,.

4. Find margins left click on the drop down arrow, at the bottom of the dialogue box, you will see Custom Margins.

5. The page set up dialogue box will appear. Change the Margins to read as follows, Top, Left, Bottom, and Right should all read 0.

6. Press ok, when the next dialogue box comes up press Fix, and then press ok again.

TO DRAW YOUR FIRST TAG:

1. On the Ribbon Bar go to Insert/Shapes Left Click on the drop down arrow, at the bottom you will see New Drawing Canvas, Left click.

2. Make your drawing canvas the same size as your page, or as near as possible. You do this by holding and dragging the black line at the sides and top and bottom.

3. Left Click Insert on the Ribbon Bar, then left click Shapes ,left click on the shape you want. Bring your pointer onto your page and you will see a fine cross. Hold and drag your mouse and draw the shape you want.

4. To Format your shape, left click on it, go to format on the ribbon bar, and choose text wrapping, left click on the drop down arrow and chose square. You should now be able to move your shape around the page.

5. Change the size to 9cm across and 5cm down; use your double-sided arrows, and watch your measurements change.

6. This is only a guideline.

TO INSERT A PICTURE:

1. On the Ribbon Bar go to insert, choose clip art or Pictures, this depends on what you want to put onto your card.

2. When the dialogue box for clip art is on the screen, type into the search box what you would like to put into your letter, try typing Birthday, and see what comes up.

3. When you put your pointer over the picture a drop down arrow appears, left click the drop down arrow, and then click insert. Only click once.

4. If your picture needs formatting, select picture by left clicking on it, left click on format along the ribbon bar and find text wrapping left click on square.

5. Move your Picture into your Gift Tag, and position it where you think it will look good.

6. You can make your picture larger or smaller, by using the doubled sided arrow.

2. Make sure your text box is formatted in the normal way, if necessary.

3. Hold down the left side of your mouse and draw a text box to the size you require, if you let go of the mouse the text box is finished, if it is not what you want you will have to delete it and start again.

4. Type into the Text Box, spacing your Text and Lines as you want them to appear on the page.

5. You can change the Text Colour, Font, or Size, by selecting the text and going to Home on the Ribbon Bar.

Make sure that you are happy with your Card before grouping.

GROUPING YOUR WORK:

1. Grouping your work makes it easier to move and copy.

2. Select your shape, and then hold down the shift key, select the Picture, then the Word Art, then select the Text Box, go to the Ribbon Bar, and select Drawing Tools Format.

3. On the ribbon bar that appears you will see group, click the drop down arrow, and click on group, you should now be able to move all of your Birthday Tag at once

TO COPY THE CARD:

1. Select your Card make sure that the four-sided arrow is showing.

2. Hold down the Ctrl key and drag, and drop to copy your card.

3. Check again on Print Preview that everything is in the right position before printing.

MAKING A FOUR-FOLD CARD ON AN A4 SHEET:

TO DIVIDE A PAGE INTO FOUR QUARTERS:

1. Open a new page in Microsoft Word 2007.

2. Make sure that your ruler is showing.

3. On the Ribbon Bar choose Insert, Shapes click on the line shape.

4. When you pointer is on your page it turns into a fine four sided cross.

5. Hold the left side of your mouse down and your shift key, draw a line down the middle of the page, use your ruler to give you an idea of where the middle of the page may be,

6. Go back, click the line shape again, and draw a line across the middle of your page.

7. You might need to format your lines, so click on them, one at a time go to the Ribbon Bar and choose format, text wrapping, square, you can now move your lines.

8. If your lines need to be move slightly, use your up and down arrows on the keyboard.

9. Now that you have your page set up, the fun can begin; try inserting pictures and word art onto your card.

FRONT AND BACK PAGES:

1. The front and back pages are the two bottom squares.

2. The right hand side is the front page, and the left hand side is the back page.

3. The top two square are the inside of the card.

4. When you place your pictures or word art onto these pages, you can rotate them. If you are going to use a Text Box in your card, make sure that it is on the front or back pages, a Text box cannot be rotated.

5. Do not forget to use Format/Text Wrap/Square.

6. Refer to the previous lesson on how to insert Pictures/Clip Art/Word Art and Text boxes.

TO REMOVE LINES FROM THE PAGE:1. Before printing your card, go to print preview.

2. Print preview is located by clicking your Office Button and going to print, or on the Quick Access Toolbar.

3. Look to see if it is symmetrical, if you are happy with it Close the Print Preview box, use print preview often while working on your card.

4. To remove the lines from your page. Select one line and press delete, and then select the other and press delete.

5. When you have made your card, print your card on side one, and then print your Letter on side two.

MAKING CERTIFICATES:

In this last lesson, we will make up own Certificate or Place Mat, and go over some of the work that we have been doing. We will use all of the skills that we have learnt through this course.

We have no set designs for these and we would like you to use your imagination to make them.

1. Choose your Orientation, you will find this in Page Layout. Change it from Portrait to Landscape

2. The first thing is to insert a Watermark. If you want to use Clip Art you will need to do the following steps first.

3. Open Clip Art

4. Write in the search box what you would like to see as a watermark.

5. Left click Go.

6. Chose your picture then Right click and then left click COPY

7. Minimise your Word Doc to the Task Bar.

8. Right Click and then left click PASTE. This will put it onto your desktop.

9. Open your Word document again from the task bar. Go to Page Layout, in Page background you will see Watermark.

10. Use the drop down arrow and then click on Custom Watermark.

11. When the new dialogue box opens, put a radio button into Picture Watermark, and then click Select Picture.

12. When the dialogue box opens either chose your pictures folder or find the picture that you have put on your desktop, look through and choose what picture you would like to use as a watermark.

13. Select picture and press insert you might find that your picture jumps straight over to the document that you are working on.

14. In the Scale box use the drop down arrow and choose what scale you would like your Watermark to be. (Try them all and see what works best for you).

15. Just remember that you have to undo and start from scratch every time you want to change the scale.

16. Now we will insert a Page Border.

17. Press your enter button about five times then tap your Space bar about 10 times, this just sets your page so that when the Border is inserted your IP pointer will be in the correct position for typing if you do not use your Word Art..

18. In Page Layout find Page Border click and then choose Page Border/Box chose what Art you would like, and change the size if necessary also change the colour if possible. Changing the colour is only possible if your Colour box is not greyed out.

19. It is now up to you to choose how you would like the writing to appear, you can use your Word Art if you like or just type straight onto the page, if you are just typing straight onto the page, make sure that you choose your font and size and that you Center the writing.

20. You can then insert a Picture or Clip Art, do not forget to Text Wrap and Square, so that you can move it, or resize it. Use your Print Preview often.
