It certainly would have made the front page of the newspaper! Your task is to write a newspaper article letting everyone know about the invention. Try to: Have a headline that is short and snappy Have a sentence at the beginning which sums up the story Write in the past tense Include at least three facts in your article: who was involved, what happened and when it happened. Did you spot any onomatopoeia or alliteration in the extract?

Listen carefully for the adjectives that are used to describe grandma’s character- grumpy is one adjective. How many others did you read / hear?

Answer these 5 questions about the extract.1) Which emergency services does Mrs Kranky

want to phone?2) What is a drinking trough?3) What time of the day did this happen? (hint,

you might need to read to the end of the extract to find the answer.)

4) ‘She’s still going!’ shouted Mr Kranky gleefully. What does the word gleefully mean?

5) How do you think George feels? What makes you think this?

Talk to someone about the novel. Explain to them what you thought about the book. The best bits, the bits you would change and if you would recommend this book to someone?

ChallengeThink of another word that could mean the same as gleefully- this is called a synonym.An antonym is the opposite of a word. Think of an antonym for the word gleefully?

Ice-cream InvestigationThe ice-cream parlour sells 5 flavours of ice-cream – chocolate, strawberry, mint choc chip, blueberry and lemon. Mrs Govan would like a cone with 2 scoops. Both scoops can be the same flavour.

The Jewish festival Shavout began on Friday 28th May and lasted until Saturday 30th May. This is a VERY important festival and celebrated across the world.
