Monday – Charlie and the chocolate factory, Pages 1-5

Once there was Mr and Mrs Bucket. Mr Bucket’s parents were Grandpa Joe and Grandma Josephine. Mrs Bucket’s parents were Grandpa George and Grandma Georgina. Mr and Mrs Bucket had a small boy called Charlie Bucket. The whole of the family – the six grown-ups and little Charlie lived together in a small wooden house on the edge of a town.

There were only two rooms in their house altogether and there was only one bed. The bed was given to the four old grandparents. They were so old and tired, they never got out of it. Mr and Mrs bucket and Charlie slept in the other room, upon mattresses on the floor.

In the summertime, this wasn’t too bad, but in the winter, freezing cold draughts blew across the floor all night long and it was awful. They couldn’t buy another house as they were too poor for that. Mr Bucket was the only person in the family with a job. He worked in a toothpaste factory, where he sat all day long and screwed little caps on to the tops of the toothpaste after the tubes had been filled. But a toothpaste cap-screwer is never paid very much money.

Tuesday – Charlie and the chocolate factory, Pages 9-10

Charlie’s grandparents were over ninety. They were as shrivelled as prunes and as bony as skeletons. They lay huddled in the bed, dozing the time away. But as soon as they heard Charlie’s voice, all four of them would suddenly sit up and their wrinkled faces would light up with smiles of pleasure.

They loved Charlie. He was the only bright thing in their lives and his evening visits were something they looked forward to all day long.

One evening Charlie asked his grandparents if it was true that Wonka’s factory was the biggest in the world. He also asked if Mr Willy Wonka was really the cleverest chocolate maker in the world. “My dear boy,” said Grandpa Joe, “Mr Willy Wonka is the most amazing, the most fantastic, the most extraordinary chocolate maker the world has ever seen!”

Wednesday – Charlie and the chocolate factory, Pages 15-16

Grandpa Joe told Charlie that Prince Pondicherry wrote a letter to Mr Willy Wonka to come all the way to India and build him a colossal palace entirely of chocolate.

Mr Wonka built a palace that had one hundred rooms and everything was made of either dark or light chocolate! The bricks, cement, windows, walls and ceiling were all made of chocolate, so were the carpets, pictures, furniture and beds. When you turned on the taps in the bathroom, hot chocolate came pouring out.

When it was all finished, Mr Wonka warned the prince to start eating the palace right away as it won’t last very long. “Nonsense!” shouted the prince. “I’m not going to eat my palace. I’m going to live in it!” Very soon, came a very hot day and the whole palace melted!

Grandpa Joe also told Charlie another strange thing. He told Charlie that no one ever goes in or come out of the factory!

Thursday – Charlie and the chocolate factory, Pages 18-19

The next evening, Grandpa Joe went on with his story.” You see Charlie,” he said, “not so very long ago, there used to be thousands of people working in Mr Willy Wonka’s factory. Then all of a sudden, he had to ask every single one of them to leave and never to come back.”

“But why?” asked Charlie.

“Because of spies.”

“All the other chocolate makers got jealous and started sending spies to steal Wonka’s secret recipes. The spies pretending to be workers, found out exactly how a certain special thing was made.”

Grandpa Joe continued, “The spies went back to their own factories to tell and soon other chocolate makers were making the ice cream that never melted, chewing gum that never lost its flavour and sugar balloons that blew up to huge sizes. Mr Wonka shouted, “ This is terrible, there are spies everywhere! I’ll be ruined. I shall have to close the factory!”

“Then he shut the main gates and fastened them with a chain. Suddenly, Wonka’s factory became silent and deserted. The chimneys stopped smoking and machines stopped making any sounds.”

There are two copies of the list of classroom words. Using one, practise saying the words as best you can.Cut out all the squares with the words / pictures from both sheets. Afternoon task 2 – Science – Food groupsThe human body needs a balanced diet to work properly. Good health involves drinking enough water and eating the right amount of foods from the different food groups:Carbohydrates give us energy. They are found in foods such as bread, potatoes and pasta.

Proteins help our bodies to repair themselves. They are found in foods such as fish, meat, nuts, seeds, eggs and cheese.Fats help store energy for our bodies. They are found in foods such as butter, cheese, nuts and fried food.Fibre is important for helping us digest our foods. It’s found in fruit and vegetables.The Eatwell GuideThe Eatwell Guide shows how much of what we eat overall should come from each food group to achieve a healthy, balanced diet.

Aim to eat at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and veg each day. Choose from fresh, frozen, tinned, dried or juiced. Remember that fruit juice and smoothies should be limited to no more than a combined total of 150ml a day.

Fruit and vegetables are a good source of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

Starchy food should make up just over a third of the food we eat. Choose higher fibre wholegrain varieties, such as wholewheat pasta and brown rice, or simply leave skins on potatoes.

Starchy foods are a good source of energy and the main source of a range of nutrients in our diet.

Milk, cheese, yoghurt and fromage frais are good sources of protein and some vitamins, and they're also an important source of calcium, which helps keep our bones healthy.

Fish, eggs, meat, nuts are good sources of protein, vitamins and minerals. Pulses, such as beans, peas and lentils, are good alternatives to meat because they're lower in fat and higher in fibre and protein, too.

Unsaturated fats are healthier fats and include vegetable, rapeseed, olive and sunflower oils.

Remember all types of fat are high in energy and should be eaten sparingly.

A search engine is a website through which users can search internet content. To do this, users enter the desired search term into the search field. The search engine then looks through its index for relevant websites and displays them in the form of a list.

After writing and choosing an image, you are now going to save this information for other computing and DT lessons. Shown below are some steps to do your task.
