All areas are continued to be supported in the gardens and we strive to continue improving our resources for this purpose. The front garden includes: large play house, sand pit, small pond, story circle, mud digging pit, fruit and vegetable growing beds and a variety of plants, shrubs and flowers. We also have the opportunity to use the school fields and grounds and the hall for dance and movement.

Children’s individual needsIndividual needs

We at K.E.S welcome all children into our setting, after the initial settling in period in which we observe the child/ children and consider their holistic wellbeing. The child’s next steps are put into place through observations taken daily and incorporated into our planning. We consult with parents about their child’s development over their time they attend the setting. We arrange two parent weeks over the academic year where you are able to look through your children’s learning journals and discuss any achievements or concerns or both about your child.

At K.E.S during drop off and picking up of your child, you are always able to speak to any member of staff or your child’s key worker about your child’s day or anything else you would like us to know. We aim for you to feel comfortable and able to talk to us whenever you wish.

All our toys and equipment shall be clearly labelled with pictures so they are easily accessed by all the children. How we support additional needs within the setting

If we have any concerns with the child’s holistic wellbeing we would discuss any concerns with the parent/career. We can then discuss our next steps and with the parent/career consent we would then refer to appropriate agencies or relevant services. Resources/equipment are suitably sourced and put into place to support this area of concern. When a child joins the setting with English as an Additional Language (EAL) resources shall be sourced as it is required. We always respect the parents/careers wishes and would work closely with them to ensure the transition into the setting is not a daunting one.

Experiences within the communityAt KES we aim to go for walks to explore the local area within our community, this includes the local parks, church, post office and a farm. When on our walks we look at the buildings on the way, this includes a doctor’s surgery, different types of houses and the village hall. Ideally we would like to do this once a week in which you will be informed in the news letters, on the planning board and informed in person within the week ( consent is not required each time as signatures and permission is written in the children’s record forms)When a trip is being planned which involves transport i.e. mini bus or coach, permission will be required and booster seats will be requested to bring on that day. The trips that we plan are to help the children explore different environments; this includes going to visit Queenswood to experience the changes of the seasons, Wyevale at Christmas to buy decorations for our Christmas tree, the theatre and DIY centres etc. When plan our trips with great care and consideration for any risks that maybe involved, we keep the child/staff ratio low to ensure the children’s safety. Staff are constantly diligent during trips and this allows for a fun learning experience.
