Week 1

Lessons 1-4 (Feature length film 1-6 lessons)Explicit teaching lesson on film review using BBC website. Use the bbc bitesize attachment to model the main features of a film review, or hand it out to be used as a planner/note taking resource while the film is being viewed.

Film Review (Full length for 5 week unit or short film for 4 week unit)

The students will view a film (of your choice) and take notes using the film review planner worksheet

The students view a film, plan and write drafts of a film review, to publish on Edmodo. Other students in their group will peer review the work. Students then redraft and publish final copy on Edmodo, removing the earlier draft.

Full length film:The students will write a structured film review analysing the plot, characters and film techniques.

Week 2

Lessons 1-3

Once the students have finished their draft, have them share their work. This can be done in pairs or small groups. Sharing will be done using Edmodo (groups can also be organised using Edmodo). Once the students have their groups organised, they are to make edits/comments on each others work using ‘Track Changes’ on Microsoft word (See track changes instructions attachment).

Once the editing is complete students will need to submit their final draft via Edmodo.

Lesson 4Breaking News English activity, respond to article on Edmodo using the writing prompt.

The students will take notes or complete planning task to demonstrate understanding of journal writing or review task.

The students will demonstrate the ability to plan, draft and edit through the peer reviewing of each other’s work.

Students to complete ‘Proof Reading Pre-Test’ as a class or individually.

Students to complete punctuation exercises.

The students will submit a final proof read and edited copy of their work.

Students complete the mini lesson activity either as a whole class / shared reading activity, in small groups or alone.

Teacher to select an article relevant and suitable to their class. Mini lessons (2 page activity) are available on a range of topics and reading levels.

Week 3

Students research an activity of their choosing. (Sport, drama, music, dance etc). Write a magazine style article including images. Students could also interview someone or construct a poll and publish the results. Students need to plan, draft, publish, redraft and republish their article after peer feedback.

Lesson 1- 4As a class, discuss the different types of magazine articles, target audience (language) format.Students will need a copy of some type of magazine for this lesson. (You could also use 3556 magazine)

As a class, discuss the different layout styles of articles to assist students in the final presentation of work

Individual film review should be completed and the individual article should now be ready to publish on EDMODO

Week Four

Lessons 1-3

Students begin with a discussion of blogs and the concept of careers. Students choose careers that interest them or that they want to pursue, use online resources to research career options, and then publish occupational summaries to a class blog – Edmodo

Students then use their research to write, share, and revise occupational descriptions, edit and proofread revised drafts, and publish final descriptions online. This may take the whole of week four.
