Unit 11– task 1 So as this is my final year within my course I wanted to evaluate all elements of my progress and documents ready for my future. This includes my who am I, personal statement, work experience in and outside collage to. What I wanted to do was compare between when I did the who am I task in year one to now. I’ve changed a lot through my style to adding even more inspirations, skills and ambitions I believe it was through the many tasks carried out and my experiences to throughout the two years. Although I have always stuck to one of my favourite producers Simon Chinn and presenter Stacey Dooley I have understood more about documentaries in which I have also begin to question how hard it really is to get into this industry especially with the jobs I have tried to apply for yet failed and I want to look at why it was not enough experience or wording of the cv who knows. This is what I want to look into, do I have the same motivation as I did have. Within the last weeks of my course it is making me question where the right place will be to start if I don’t want to go to university as this isn’t for everyone. Who am I – Year two this explains top 5 films, tv shows, ambitions, experiences, inspirations and beliefs I have it shows the ones that haven’t changed throughout these two years shows how passionate I am about those specially towards my personal beliefs of course these will change as I get older however, right now these are things I stick by in which make me even more inspired to create the type of films I have created and still are through basing it on society which links with human rights, equality, freedom e.g. to be able to speak your mind. I have become much more neater and not as messy as I was. Through this I’ve learnt a lot about myself and how much I have really changed within my thought process to analysis on subjects to.

Unit 11– task 1So as this is my final year within my course I wanted to evaluate all elements of my progress and documents ready for my future.

So I created my personal statement within the month of September 2017 where I was applying to 5 university as this was originally going to be my back up plan.

I have always aspired to have a career in the media industry. Watching documentaries and socially aware films from a young age I have been inspired with the world they have shown me, and the power of their message. I love sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for what’s going to happen next, as if it’s the most important thing in the world. The creative freedom it gives you; this is why I want to become a Director. I want to push ideas further, to challenge and show the audience a perception or angle on a subject that I believe needs to be talked about. I feel that I have started on my career already, with the production of a number of socially aware films. My short film, Isolation (2017) was shown and shortlisted at the Auburn Children’s and Young Adult Film Festival in Sydney, Australia. It also reached the semi-finals in the Portuguese Film Festival, Portugal Festival de Cinema Escolar de Alvarado. In 2016 I was awarded first prize at the UAL Origins Exbition, for my documentary, Voices To Be Heard (2016), In association with The Arts Council, I was recognised for my contribution to the arts in Kent, at the Uprising festival in Canterbury, last summer

I am currently studying the UAL Media Production Extended Diploma Level 3, to gain more skills, techniques and knowledge of leading industry software and equipment, such as Avid media composer and the Adobe CS3 Suite and using equipment, such as green screen, lighting rigs etc. I have also produced short films covering a range of subjects such as experimental, documentaries and fictional narrative. I have also studied theoretical research and critical analysis.

In 2016, I was 1 of 40, selected nationally (I was the youngest person there) to take part in a BFI Documentary residential. This was an intense two-week course in which we had to create a documentary, of our own choice. We produced a documentary concerning nurses in care homes. I met industry individuals such as presenter Stacey Dooley, producer Simon Chinn and James Gay-Rees the producer of the documentary Amy (2015). Later in 2017, I took part in a Channel 4 workshop, having been selected out of a 100 to participate. In 3 hours we created a short film based

on the 2012 Paralympics. I have also just completed working with a new company ‘Anaka’. I produced content for their product launch and website.

As an Ambassador for the National Citizen Service, I was chosen to be one of 100 people to represent young people from the UK, during the summer of 2017 at the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the battle of Passchendaele in Belgium. My job role was to look after the public, descendants and dignitaries that were going to the press and public events. Working with the National Citizen Service It has given

me so much experience, whether that’s creating an art festival, being part of the regional youth board, which enables you to make decisions on how the programme is run within Kent and Sussex and being part of a panel at the annual Labour Conference 2017 speaking about engaging young people in politics.

In my spare time I go to gigs, events, explore new places, step out of my comfort zone, and write poetry and photography. I particularly enjoy doing photo shoots for magazines and social media campaigns. I believe photography is another way to express or influence ideas and open eyes to the reality of our world

Having the curiosity into wanting to know more about what goes on behind the scenes of the media industry it’s the world that im ready to look further into.

Here is a link to my website where all of my portfolio and work with in college is shown: https://carlabinder.wixsite.com/carlabinderpf

The personal statement did make a lot of an effect with all university’s offering me a interview however I decided to only go to two one close to where I live UCA and one which I thought was the one I’ve always wanted to go to which is Falmouth university I was impressed by both and had got offers on both however, within my circumstances I decided to confirm my place within UCA. Within the time I accepted till now I decided university wasn’t the right place for me as I know I’ve got so much determination to get into the industry and decided to look for apprenteships and internships rather than doing a three-year course in which I may not be passionate about.Through this I did get one unconditional and conditional from my personal statement.

What have I learnt to date?

As well as my who am I task I have learnt a lot throughout the course through me not knowing much until I stepped foot onto this course. Over the two years, I have gained a lot of skills and understanding more about the industry and techniques to. This will be comparing my progress from the beginning until now.At the very beginning of my course, I did have a little experience with a few skills such as knowing how to use certain cameras and microphones or editing on Adobe Photoshop or premiere pro. Within the first year of the course, the first thing I can think of is learning about framing and composition which is the first thing I remember. When I learned a lot more about how to make sure the camera and framing is right which has helped me a lot even now. Has made me think more about third lines, leading line or symmetry and comparing it to scenes from famous films. Another skills lighting learning about the different types of lighting such as the key light, fill light and backlight these are associated with a type of skill called 3-point lighting which has helped me a lot with all of my projects and I continue to still use them even for my project I am doing now. With also being able to know how to use colour gels to compliment with the white balance when using a camera. As well as these I have also learnt about the 180-degree rule which is based on keeping the camera on the same side to avoid confusion between the camera and the audience. This is another skill that I use when creating projects so then it looks clearer and not making the visuals confusing at all. Another one is an introduction to audio which made me more interested in wanting to create my own Foley or sound effect and understanding the different types of mics and polar patterns you can have too. Finally, I learnt a lot about the paperwork of pre-production and understanding the importance of it this has helped me a lot with the project in and outside of this course. As I compare to when I first started till now I have realised I have learnt so much and have recognised how much my work has improved over the past two years. It’s made me more motivated and dedicated towards my work as I gained more knowledge and skills on top of learning about the basics we revisited some of them to investigate them even further with for example replicating specifics stills from the BBC Twos “The Game” this was beneficial in understanding more about how to use a fill light, backlight and key light. As well as going through various projects such as the Hallo Project this was my first official short film and from that, I had learnt a lot about time consistency and how to manage to do all the roles myself or working as a team to create a short film too.

Furthermore, this term I will focus on focusing on my editing and camera skills so then my extended project will be successful as I know mainly making those two skills my focus will allow me to portray the experimental style I want to portray to make this short film powerful and get people thinking about the subjects that will be in this experimental short film. Overall, I believe that I will still be learning even more throughout this project whether they will be positives or negatives I will be able to learn from them.

I went onto the prospects website and done a career test the most matched job was a charity fundraiser although it something I would like to do anyway it associates with what I would like to do which is become a producer for documentary’s which is to do with creating awareness within our world today which is in the right paths.

From then on, I went onto the Myer Briggs test and these are my results.

Protagonists are natural-born leaders, full of passion and charisma. Forming around two percent of the population, they are oftentimes our politicians, our coaches and our teachers, reaching out and inspiring others to achieve and to do well in the world. With a natural confidence that begets influence, Protagonists take a great deal of pride and joy in guiding others to work together to improve themselves and their community.

Here’s the work experience I have had in and outside of college:

Runner– Short Film 51 states -February 2018I was a Runner for the first day of shoot for the short film 51 states where I was working within a hardworking and fast paced environment. With the set being based at a very challenging location to work with and assisting every crew member’s needs.

Digital conference assistant – NCS December 2017This is where I had a two-week internship as a digital marketing team which consisted of analysing and understanding how the professional side of social media is and how to specifically choose which influencer would be best for the company ready for there 2018 campaign as well as looking at how it would also portray a crossed the company’s social media platform. I also was working on their annual conference which held 1,000 people and taking over their social media to create content throughout the day. I had reached their most viewed Snapchat which was over 8,000 people had seen which was incredible for them. This allowed me to work in a professional environment, understand social media in a different angle and being able to work and adapt very quickly. Videographer/photographer - Anaka October 2017I produce photography and video content for the company’s product launch and marketing campaign. I also directed model and product photo shoots. At the launch I interviewed the guests, with all content being used on their social media. I used 750d camera, professional lighting and sound and using software’s such as Adobe Photoshop and Avid Media composer, and worked to tight deadlines, with this very demanding client.

Event Organiser - Our Generation- the Gulbenkian associated with NCS - March – July 2017Working with a team, we created an arts festival based on three subjects of our choice; climate change, the stigma of mental health and 16 and 17-year-olds being able to vote. These issues were discussed and reflected through three different short films, which we filmed and edited during the months before the festival. We used Adobe premiere pro to make digital content for the festival and used creative input and organization to make sure it was all finished on time and if the guests will be there on time.

Participant - Channel 4 Pop up - April 2017 I took part in a Channel 4 workshop, having been selected out of a 100 to participate. In 3 hours we created a short film based on the 2012 Paralympics my role was the producer this entailed managing each individual person, time management and drive.

Volunteering

Passchendaele 100 – NCS - July 2017 - July 2017I was one of 100 young people from the UK who represented our country in Belgium to celebrate the commemoration of Passchendaele 100. This required looking after dignitaries, the public, descendants, and royals to such as the Duchess of Cambridge. It allowed me to further develop my skills. I am now more confident, take charge when need be and I am able to talk in a public environment even when there are language barriers.Regional Youth board – NCS - Sep 2016 – Sept 2017I was a member for a year and worked with the regional youth board for NCS. This represents the SE1 area which makes decisions and expresses what needs to be

improved within the NCS programme its self. It required me to innovative, when needed to and express ideas.Speaker at Labour Conference 2017 – NCS- September 2017I was a panellist at the 2017 Labour Conference within Brighton where we spoke about how to involve young people more in politics.

I have gained and learnt so much from doing all of these work experiences and will carry this on with me.

Job Ambition:Producer: Factual Television

My Ambition is to become a producer for factual television which shows the world in a different light through various cultures and countries. I’ve always had a passion of sharing peoples stories and I believe that this is one of the ways of succeeding and expressing my determination for telling stories and sharing them with the public that will create an impact and get people thinking about it.

What skills will I need to become a producer:

creativity and vision presentation and negotiation skills leadership and management ability planning and organisational skills financial skills and the ability to work to a budget

Page 15: carlabinderfilmtv16.files.wordpress.com  · Web viewUnit 11– task 1. So as this is my final year within my course I wanted to evaluate all elements of my progress and documents

Your day-to-day duties might include:

deciding which projects to produce, or creating programme ideas yourself reading scripts securing the rights for books or screenplays, or negotiating with writers to produce new

screenplays identifying sources of funding and raising finances working out what resources are needed checking and approving locations pitching to television broadcasters to commission your programme planning filming schedules hiring staff, cast and crew managing cash flow making sure the production stays on schedule and within budget working with marketing companies and distributors

Looking at the skills I do still sometimes question whether someone like a director would be better for me as it is more creative rather than a producer is more on the business side and dealing with money which is then associated with maths which is my weakest skill so sometimes I do think Is a producer right for me but I love the part of raising the fund and all of the pre-production and choosing which script will be the next blockbuster or franchise that will get everyone talking I believe time will tell more so. With the skills I believe I need to improve on negotiating and financing as I think the other skills I do well at due to me being so passionate about creating a vision and turning an idea into a reality.

Overall, I believe time will tell through me deciding which path I would like to take and I know the purpose would be creating impact with factual television that will show another view on the world. Im looking forward and very nervous for what the future will hold for me but that’s all waiting to be discovered these years at Canterbury college I have learnt a lot from friendship, skills and much more confidence has grown within my personality than ever before.
