HEAVERS FARM and SELSDON PRIMARY SCHOOLS PARENT AND CARER LEARNING NEWSLETTER Year: Nursery Autumn Term 2 2016 Dear parents and carers, The children have settled well into nursery and are begining to make some good friendships. The children are still learning the nursery class rules and with support are finding independent activities to do both inside and outside the classroom. Over this term the children will be learning about the Mr Men stories through a range of different activities. We shall also be focusing on Christmas and completing activities to help celebrate this Christian festival. Communication and language development The children will be listening to lots of Mr Men stories and talking about what is happeing in the pictures and what might happen next in the story. Personal and Social development During carpet sessions, we will be reading a selection of Mr. Men stories where we will be discussing the feelings of the different characters. English This term we will be learning the phase 1 aspect 2 phonics, which involves listening to and distinguishing between different instrumental sounds. Maths During our fun Mr Men topic we will be looking closely at 2D shapes and their properties. We will also be looking to find the same 2D shapes within the nursery environment.

Dear parents and carers,

The children have settled well into nursery and are begining to make some good friendships. The children are still learning the nursery class rules and with support are finding independent activities to do both inside and outside the classroom. Over this term the children will be learning about the Mr Men stories through a range of different activities. We shall also be focusing on Christmas and completing activities to help celebrate this Christian festival.

Communication and language developmentThe children will be listening to lots of Mr Men stories and talking about what is happeing in the pictures and what might happen next in the story.

ICTThe children will be given opportunities to complete simple age related computer programmes that help support the children’s speaking and listening skills.

Understanding of the worldOur main topic will be the Mr Man stories where the children will find out about different textures (Mr Messy) and smells (Mr Nosey) within the nursery environment.

Physical developmentThe children will be working on their fine motor skills through a range of activities to help develop writing skills eg. Tweezers, shaving foam, scissors and play dough.

Creative developmentThe children will be encouraged to make props to help support their play eg. Making Mr Men puppets to use with the small world resources.
