What are we Learning?**Reading – Unit 3: NonFiction Unit

Differences between informational and literature texts Text features including captions, bold print, sub-headings, glossary, index,
electronic menus, icons, illustrations Authors write with a purpose Paragraphs are organized by topic.
**Writing – Unit 2: Information Books on “Know Topics” They will pick a topic they know a lot about and begin to write the information on notecards. They will recall information from experiences and write ideas based on interests and their background knowledge.
**Spelling Pattern – Week 9: Long i -igh, i_e, ie. We will practice our spelling words in one of the reading rotations. Kids learn their new words, mostly, by practicing at home. We will take all the place value knowledge that we have learned and use our strategies to solve word problems. This requires reading comprehension, so we will use Beginning, Middle, and End information to understand the problem. They will be amazing!!
**Social Studies –Voting, responsible citizens, rules/laws **Duck for President**
Homework Please read for at least 20 minutes each night. Log the book/minutes read in your child's
agenda each night. Reading A-Z – Nonfiction assignment (Listen, Read, Quiz) Study Spelling and know the meaning of the words *optional*
