Hooters out of school club

Can we remind all parents that school will be closed for staff training on Friday 1st May. We re-open on Tuesday 5th May following the Bank Holiday weekend.

St George’s Day Celebrations This year we decided to celebrate this day with a special assembly all about the background to St George and by allowing any children who attend uniformed organisations to wear their uniform on that day. Parents will remember that last year we held a Red, White and Blue Day and fundraised for Help for Heroes amongst many other charitable events. We always aim for LJS children to experience as wide a variety of celebrations as possible.

360 Cycle Display Team Next Thursday we are due to have a visit from the 360 Cycle display team; we have organised this as part of our celebrations for the Tour de Yorkshire. The team will be putting an hour long programme on for the children which we are all thoroughly looking forward to.

Tour de ECLC and Yorkshire Some of you will remember last year’s events in June. This year our school is closed when the cycling event is taking place but Mr Payne will be the LJS Rider for this year on our training day. Year 5 children have the chance to take part in cycling races held in our school with a final at St Chad’s on Friday 1st May from 3.30pm. There will be a bar, refreshments and some live music too. If your child is in Year 5 and would like to take part in the cycling heats to be held in our own school next Thursday, please ask them to complete the slip on the letter brought home yesterday.

Pictured above are children from our school who attend Guide, Brownie, cub and scout groups in this area. Many thanks to parents for allowing them to attend school in their uniforms.

As some of you will be aware we were let down this week by our dance tutor and so had to cancel the arranged club. I’m very pleased to say that Miss Thomas has kindly stepped in to make sure the club can continue. Thank you very much Miss Thomas.

Mr Hurst’s ICT MIX…has been moved to Mondays due to the fact that the previous evening only attracted three children. We hope that the new evening will prove more popular. Please see Mrs Clarke or call in at the office if you would like to attend. Spaces are available!

Well done to our Max This Saturday Max Lomas is joining the walk to Valley Parade with the kitman, walking from Lincoln City to raise money for the burns unit for the 30th anniversary of the Bradford City fire. Max will be joining them for the last 5 miles, along with 50 Barnsley fans! He's raised over £300 to date and is really proud of himself (as obviously are his parents and grandparents). He's chosen to do this and is aware of where the money is going and how that helped so many 30 years ago.

Attendance Matters This week’s attendance has improved on the previous percentages and we are hopeful that we have now got over the virus that has affected so many children. The school’s target is 97%. This week we have achieved 97.5% which has lifted the percentage from September to 95.9%. With another good week of attendance we could see the overall score hitting 96% which would be brilliant.
