What are Equality Objectives?

At Swansea Council, we are looking at how to make Swansea a fairer place.

Treating everyone fairly means

Everyone has the right to get the things that they need to

• be well

• be safe

• feel respected

Equality is about treating everyone fairly

Objectives are goals we can work towards

Equality Objectives are goals that the Council will work towards to make Swansea fairer

Why do we have Equality Objectives?

The law says that Swansea Council must treat all people fairly

The Council must have a Strategic Equality Plan to make sure it does what the law says

Equality Objectives are the things that the Plan wants to do

These things must be done by 2024

Our Ideas So Far6

A Strategic Equality Plan is a document that says what will happen to make things fairer

A Report called ‘Is Wales Fairer‘ has told us about Equality and fairness in Wales

The Council has learned about Equality from people in Swansea

We want to ask people if our draft ideas for Equality Objectives are the right ones.

This includes the views of people who are most likely to be treated unfairly.

We want to listen to everyone’s ideas so we get things right.

We will work together to make sure learning is a good experience for everyone

We want to make sure everyone has a fair chance to do well

We will work to make sure people are paid fairly

We want to make sure everyone has a fair chance to work

We want to help people live without the help of others

4 Health

We will provide sport, health and chances for people to take part in the things they enjoy.

For the mind as well as body
