General News

I have to take this opportunity to say how very proud I felt of all our budding performers on our dress rehearsal when we performed The McTivity to Miss Roberts and her class from Melvich Primary as well as to some family members, and even more so on the night itself when they performed to a packed hall. Everyone was absolutely awesome!

You should all have received a photo of your child by email. Should you not have received this, please let me know and I will forward it again.

In the drama of the day, I left the notes for my speech in the classroom and was too late to run back for them! So, I thought I’d take this opportunity to share with you what I would have said on the night:

“All our wonderful pupils from nursery to P5, have proved tonight that they have been developing as Effective Contributors by getting involved and by building team strength. They have been developing as Confident Individuals by managing their own emotions and by being super organised. They have been developing as Responsible Citizens by Identifying Issues as well as evaluating evidence by self-assessing their own performance, and they have been developing as Successful Learners by setting themselves the HUGE challenge of presenting this performance to you.”

Each of our pupils has these areas of development to add to their profiles and, of course, to our “Growing Skills For Life” wall. Well done everyone.

I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ for all the kind messages following my appointment as DHT on a job share basis. At the same time, I would like to reassure you that Tongue Primary will continue to be my base.

As you will see from the weekly timetable, we will be welcoming a Mr John Woods into our school at the beginning of next week. Mr Woods is a supply teacher and will work with P4,5 on Monday then both classes on Tuesday, other than when groups are in art. I have every confidence that all our pupils will welcome Mr Woods and make him feel at home.I will update you with staffing details as and when I am in a position to do so. In the meantime, I will continue to work with both classes.

Our Christmas Lunch will be on Tuesday 17th December. Pupils and staff are all invited to wear a Christmas jumper/top on this day, although if your child would be more comfortable in school uniform, that’s fine.

Our Reindeer Drive will take place on Thursday 19th December. We will start as close to 9am as possible. The running order of the day will be:

Reindeer Drive Game 1Santa visit

Snack and share profilesReindeer Drive Game 2

It promises to be a very entertaining session and we would love as many of you as possible to join us.Please mark the date in your diary. Our Christmas Party will take place that afternoon and parents are welcome to come in to help their children change at lunch time.

The Tongue and Melness Children’s Christmas Party will be held on Wednesday 18th December from 5-7pm in Tongue Village Hall. All children primary 7 and below welcome! This includes Tongue Primary and nursery pupils from Altnahara and Skerray.

Water bottles, school bags, PE kits and homework in the book bags are all essential parts of daily life in a school. Please help your child to be prepared for school every day by ensuring (or reminding older pupils) they have every one of these in school with them every day. It makes your child’s life more relaxed when they are prepared for their day at school.

Transition News

The children from the nursery have had a chance to taste a school dinner. They and their adults had lunch yesterday and all were very excited about it in the morning.

All that remains now is for me to wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas break and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Veronica M Nicol.
