PRAYER AFTER RECEIVING THE HOLY COMMUNIONWe thank THEE O Father who hast designed to feed us with the precious body and blood of His Son Our Saviour JESUS CHRIST. Grant that this Holy Communion may not bring fresh guilt upon us, but may give us salvation. Let it be upon us armour of faith and a shield of good resolution. Let it help us to fight against all our sins and wrong desires; and let it defend us against the assaults of the devil and the bad thoughts of our hearts and give us firm loyalty to Thee and a happy end, through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

Theme: The Presence of GodTopic: The Place of Perfect PeaceText: Psalm 46:1-11Aim: To make us realise that we can find absolute peace only in God’s

presence.

Introduction: In a world full of confusion, hardships, hatred and great

Page 9:   · Web viewTHEME; THE COMING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. ORDER OF SERVICE. 1. Opening Hymn: CH. 397(Tune: Melcombe). 2. Introductory Sentence: But be filled with the Spirit

Wickedness, what great relief to find a place - in the presence of God (Jn. 16:33)! This peace is obtainable in Christ (John 14:27). It begins in our heart through salvation and remains as long as we remain consistent in Him. As we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, God desires to bring us into the place of His peace by the Holy Spirit, who gives us peace.

Study Guide:1a. What are our present experience in the world? Ps. 46:1-11; Jn. 15:18-20; 16:1-2.b. What is this “Place of Peace”? Eph. 2:14; Psa. 46:1-11; Jn 16:33.2. Where and how can we find this “Place of Peace” Isa. 9;6; Matt. 11:28-30, John 14:6, 27;

16:33; Rom. 5:1.3. How can we enjoy and remain in peace? Is 26:3; 32:17; Col. 3:12-17; Jn. 14:26-27.4. What are the benefits of dwelling in God’s peace? Jn. 14:27; 16:33.

Conclusion. In Christ, God has taken our sorrows away and given us His peace. We are expected to take hold of this peace through prayer and study of His word. In this way, we can daily appropriate this peace and also show it forth to the world around us.

Food for Thought.Your peace is attached to your obedience to God’s word and trust in HIm.

Hymn For The Year.m:m:m:f:- d:m:-:-s:f:m:r:-m:r:-:-m:f:l:s:-fm:-r:f:-r:d:t:d:m:-r:d:-:

Come and rejoice with me!For once my heart was poor,And I have found a treasury Of love, a boundless store.

Come and rejoice with me!I, once so sick at heart,Have met with One who knows my case,And knows the healing art.

Come and rejoice with me!For I was wearied sore,And I have found a mighty arm Which holds me evermore.

Come and rejoice with me!My feet so wide did roam,And One has brought me from afar,To find in Him my home.

Come and rejoice with me!For I have found a Friend,Who knows my heart’s most secret depths, Yet loves me without end.

I knew not of His love; And He had loved so long,With love so faithful and so deep,So tender and so strong.

And now I know it all,Have heard and known His voice,And hear it still from day to day,Can I enough rejoice?

“Then Jesus said to them again, peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit” John 20:21-22.

Many leaders say they intend to work themselves out of a job. That is exactly what Jesus did. In the above quoted bible passage, Jesus puts His final touches on the empowerment of His twelve, then turns them loose. He gives them His peace (v.20) and breathes on them to receive the power of the Holy Spirit (v.22). This peace and power would enable them to serve supernaturally. Those men He mentored were now ready to be change agents.

During the last discourse that Jesus had with His disciples before His trial and crucifixion, He promised them that they would receive the Holy Spirit as the one who would regenerate them; “He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you” (John 14:17), Jesus now fulfils that promise.

Prior to this time, the disciples were technically true believers and followers of Jesus and were saved according to the provisions of the Old Covenant. Yet they were not regenerated in the full New Covenant sense. Not until this point did the disciples enter into the New Covenant provisions based on Jesus’ death and resurrection (Mt. 26:28, Lk. 22:20; I Cor. 11:25; Eph. 2:15-16; Heb. 9:15-17.

The Holy Spirit does not only cleanse outwardly. He renews our mind (Roman 12:2), and is the divine energy within us that separates us from all that influences the flesh. He links us up with the glory into which God has introduced us –into all wherein God has manifested Himself – by overcoming that which hinders us from the enjoyment of these privileges.

The first work of the Holy Spirit is that He presents the following three things. He presents sin to an individual in all its honours, especially as it is seen in the rejection of the Lord, in order that the conscience might be touched thereby and the person might come to a consciousness of his lost condition. Without this redemption is not possible. A man must be convicted of his sin and know that he is lost and unable to stand before a holy and just God.

But the Holy Spirit testifies of a second thing. He shows that the work of reconciliation has been accomplished, and that Christ “has been delivered for our offences,” so that on the basis of this work God can forgive the sins of all who believe on this sacrifice and who are thereby made one with Him.

And then the Holy Spirit presents a third thing – the final Judgment that shall judicially take away all that is opposed to God. We see those things presented in Peter’s first Sermon on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:23, 24, 19-20 and the glorious result of this work of the Holy Spirit was that three thousand souls were added to the assembly.
