PRESS RELEASE Christmas Greetings a Resounding Success Christmas card from Kurz wins Gold Leaf Award Fürth, 14 May 2009: The 2008 Christmas card from the stamping foil manufacturer Kurz has received a Gold Leaf Award from the Foil & Specialty Effects Association (FSEA). The prize was awarded on 6 May 2009 at the Gold Leaf Awards Banquet in Atlanta. The FSEA has been holding annual awards for the best print- finished products for 16 years now. The products are judged on their design, execution and level of difficulty. The Kurz Christmas card was judged the product with the most creative application of hot stamping technology in the Greeting Cards category. The card, created by the Nuremberg designer Udo Bernstein, shows an embossed initial from the Fraktur-Initial- Buch (Gothic Initials Book) of the writing master Johann Neudörffer the Elder. The motif was made available by the German National Museum in Nuremberg. The special feature of the card is its depiction of the entire embossing process. Pages one and two of the six-page card show the front and rear side of the embossing die, pages three and four the hot- stamped relief, and pages five and six the counter die of the stamping die. The project was implemented by the Herrmann printing shop in Zirndorf in collaboration with the Denglanz print-finishing company in Erlangen. It has been a tradition of the foil manufacturer Kurz to send out each year an elaborately designed Christmas card illustrating specific aspects of the hot stamping or cold foiling process.
