Christmas Greetings a Resounding SuccessChristmas card from Kurz wins Gold Leaf Award
Fürth, 14 May 2009: The 2008 Christmas card from the stamping foil manufacturer
Kurz has received a Gold Leaf Award from the Foil & Specialty Effects Association
(FSEA). The prize was awarded on 6 May 2009 at the Gold Leaf Awards Banquet in
Atlanta.
The FSEA has been holding annual awards for the best print-finished products for
16 years now. The products are judged on their design, execution and level of
difficulty. The Kurz Christmas card was judged the product with the most creative
application of hot stamping technology in the Greeting Cards category. The card,
created by the Nuremberg designer Udo Bernstein, shows an embossed initial from
the Fraktur-Initial-Buch (Gothic Initials Book) of the writing master Johann
Neudörffer the Elder. The motif was made available by the German National
Museum in Nuremberg. The special feature of the card is its depiction of the entire
embossing process. Pages one and two of the six-page card show the front and rear
side of the embossing die, pages three and four the hot-stamped relief, and pages
five and six the counter die of the stamping die. The project was implemented by the
Herrmann printing shop in Zirndorf in collaboration with the Denglanz print-finishing
company in Erlangen.
It has been a tradition of the foil manufacturer Kurz to send out each year an
elaborately designed Christmas card illustrating specific aspects of the hot stamping
or cold foiling process. According to Kurz, the card is awaited with anticipation each
year by customers and suppliers around the world. This coveted collector’s item is
produced exclusively for the customers and partners of the company and is not
freely available.
