Job title: Development Officer ( 1FTE / 6 months) Date: December 2015 Job purpose Identifying and assessing funding opportunities, assisting with the preparation and submission of funding proposals, developing a relevant international network to benefit the work program of The Hague Institute. Reporting to: Head of Operations Organizational Background The Hague Institute for Global Justice is an independent, nonpartisan institution established to undertake high-quality interdisciplinary policy relevant research, training and facilitation activities on issues at the intersection of peace, security and justice. The Institute uses internal and external experts to conduct research, implement projects, and convene a range of topical workshops, conferences, and seminars that bring together practitioners and scholars. The Institute’s research, analyses and programming are of use to the Dutch government, multilateral institutions, and NGOs. The work of The Hague Institute is carried out through three thematic programs: 1) Conflict Prevention; 2) Rule of Law; 3) Global Governance. Duties and responsibilities: Developing a systematic overview of sources for relevant tenders and funding opportunities. Carrying out initial assessments of incoming Terms of Reference and funding leads, thereby acting as a sparring partner for the Head of Operations. Monitoring and reporting on the funding landscape to identify opportunities, and forwarding summarized advice to the Head of Operations.

Duties and responsibilities:

Developing a systematic overview of sources for relevant tenders and funding opportunities.

Carrying out initial assessments of incoming Terms of Reference and funding leads, thereby acting as a sparring partner for the Head of Operations.

Monitoring and reporting on the funding landscape to identify opportunities, and forwarding summarized advice to the Head of Operations.

Initiating and coordinating applications for funding, with prime responsibility regarding the formal requirements for submission.

Active involvement in maintaining the relevant networks of national and international organizations and funding agencies.

Acting as first point of contact for staff and external contacts related to development. Preparing, reporting and following-up on development activities. Contributing to The Hague Institute’s development strategy, from a funding perspective,

by developing both a short-term and a long-term funding strategy in close cooperation with the Head of Operations.

Qualifications University degree within the domain of the Institute’s expertise. At least 4 years of experience in a similar position. Experience in, and understanding of, developing funding strategies. A relevant network in the field of the organization’s area of expertise.

An entrepreneurial attitude and proven success in obtaining funds. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
