An Explanation About Bicycles

A bicycle is a type of transport with two wheels, you use the pedals to move it and the handlebars to steer it. And there is a small seat to sit on.

There is lots of different parts of a bicycle, but the main parts are; wheels, the frame, seat, handlebars and components.

The gears linked by the chain make the bicycle go faster, pedalling enables the gears of the bicycle to spin the back wheel. When the back wheel rotates, the tire uses friction to move the bicycle into the right direction.

Bicycles are used for exercise, to race, transport to and from work and more. Bicycles are an easy way to get around if you can’t drive.

The smallest bicycle ever made has wheels of the size of silver dollars. There are over 1 billion bicycles found across the world. Cycling became popular in the 20th century when cycling clubs and races caught on. Over 100 million bicycles are made each year. Bicycles save over 238 million gallons of gas every year. One parking space can hold between 6 and 20 parked bicycles. There are more bicycles in the world than motorcars. The first ever bicycle was made in 1817 by a man called Pierre Lallement. A bicycle is about 20 times cheaper than a car. There are twice as many bicycles in the world than cars. The fastest cyclist in the world is American rider, John Howard.
