2015Junior Golf
DevelopmentalProgram
Turnberry CC Junior Golf Mission
The mission of our junior golf program is to expose the youth of Turnberry Country Club as well as the community to a game they can enjoy the rest of their lives. Participants in the program will learn basic skills, sportsmanship, etiquette and most importantly, how to enjoy the game of golf.
As a PGA member, Head Golf Professional Kyle Carter has a direct responsibility to cultivate the growth of the game starting with our junior golf program. We have made some changes to our junior golf program in the 2015 season in an attempt to peak the interest and development of our youth. The curriculum will be slightly different from previous months in order to ensure proper development for all students. This will be our 3rd season utilizing the tiered program as well which has been a huge success! The 3 separate programs below are designed in conjunction with our philosophy of developing junior players throughout their entire youth instead of a repetitive program they follow each year:
The first level called “The Cubs” is designed to develop athletic movement and a general interest in the game for juniors just starting out, typically ages 4-6. The curriculum will be mainly based around exercises and activities that promote coordination and balance which is a key component in the golf swing. Golf will be discussed, but in a fun, inviting, non-intimidating manner.
The second level, called “The Tigers”, will be the introduction to the basics of the game. This will be very similar to our typical Jr. program, typically for kids with a basic knowledge of golf and/or ages 7-12. Activities will include basic swing mechanics, short game, etiquette and rules training.
The final level, called “The Golden Bears” is our advanced clinic. This program will teach more in depth swing mechanics, specialty shots, course management and scoring. This program is designed to get kids ready for tournament/high school golf, typically ages 13 and up and/or with a more advance knowledge of the game.
The junior program will begin on Thurday, June 26th with a kick off 6 hole scramble format event and pizza party (3 holes for “The Cubs”)! Juniors will attend a short orientation where they will receive their tee gifts, agenda and additional information for the programs.
