Which would you want? "I have come that you may have life and have it to the full" Congratulations citizens of Minneapolis! You made it through another holiday season and it’s a new year! As you flip the calendar to 2018, you may reflect upon the events of the previous year— gatherings and graduations, birthdays and business, kids and careers, vacations and visits. You may wishfully think, “I wish I had more time to enjoy my kids, parents, and friends.” Now you see the schedule filling again… you want to scream, “I need more time!” Jesus said, “I have come that you may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10). I know, life is full enough, but Jesus is not talking about doing more but having more; more purpose and a better future. We celebrated Jesus entering our world those years ago. He came so that we could be included in his family in heaven. He lived in perfect obedience each day until he died to suffer the punishment of sin for all people of all time. Then, in three days, he came back January 2018

More time or more life? Which would you want?

"I have come that you may have life and have it to the full"

Congratulations citizens of Minneapolis! You made it through another holiday season and it’s a new year! As you flip the calendar to 2018, you may reflect upon the events of the previous year— gatherings and graduations, birthdays and business, kids and careers, vacations and visits. You may wishfully think, “I wish I had more time to enjoy my kids, parents, and friends.” Now you see the schedule filling again… you want to scream, “I need more time!”

Jesus said, “I have come that you may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10). Then, in three days, he came back to life in order to proclaim his victory over death and his gift of life .

Did you know that I, as Pilgrim’s pastor, am here to help and counsel with you to know and appreciate a full life in Jesus? That's right.  I have been called by Pilgrim to give Christian counsel, to teach you Biblical truth, help apply God’s Word to your life.  That makes me God’s representative in your midst.  Pastors have the great joy to proclaim our confidence now and in our future home in heaven.  We have the joy to tell you that it’s no longer about getting all of life’s gusto. Instead, we live in thanks to our Savior.

Feel free to talk with me, as your pastor at any time.  Time…just what we need more of…with Jesus and his Word.  You won’t get more hours; but you get more out of the hours you have.

God Bless you in 2018!

Pastor Schmeling

EMAIL ANNOUNCEMENTS If you would like an email announcement sent to the congregation, please email Joe Sorensen at [email protected]. NEWSLETTER ARTICLESIf you would like to place an article in the newsletter, email it to Zoe Herzig ([email protected]). All articles are due NO LATER than the 20th of each month.

LOST AND FOUNDLost and found items are in a basket by the tracts in the narthex (1st Avenue entrance) of the church. Call the church office at 612-825-5375 to inquire about lost and found items.

Lock doors and turn off lightsPilgrim Church highly encourages the use of our facilities by groups: Pioneers, Ladies Guild, Bible Study, etc.  We ask for each group, upon leaving, to verify all lights are turned off and doors are shut tight.  Doors need to be checked by pulling on them as they may not lock unless forced shut. Numerous times staff members have arrived to find the doors not locked and lights left on.  Not checking the doors puts our property in danger of vandalism, theft and a host of other issues.  Leaving lights on causes additional funds to be sent to Xcel Energy that could have been used to spread the Gospel.

P ILGRIM IS SPONSORING A REFUGEE FAMILY! Our Pilgrim RLM Team (Refugee Life Ministries) is patiently waiting to be assigned a refugee family. Since refugees are not currently arriving in the U.S., we are still anticipating our family match. The good news is that Arrive Ministries is working to match us with a refugee family who has been in the U.S. for about a year and is in need of a support system. Please stay tuned for more updates and information!

The RLM team consists of about 8 Pilgrim members and we are looking to add more members to the team. It's a fun group with many opportunities to make connections both within our church body and the community. If you are interested in volunteering between 2-5 hours per month and/or have questions, please email Melissa Rach at [email protected].

Do YOU need a ride to Church?

Or, do you know someone who would like to attend a worship service at Pilgrim but has no transportation? The benefits of being present in God’s house, sitting with others, singing, praying and praising God are huge. Many of us are already giving rides to those who need it, but there are still some drivers who would be willing to pick others up on a regular basis or occasionally. If you would like a ride to church some Sunday please call Pastor Schmeling or Bonnie in the church office at 612-825-5375.

Opportunities

Pilgrim Ladies GuildWe are looking for new members to join our Ladies Guild. We are a service organization and

we need and invite you to bring in new thoughts and ideas. Please mark your calendar for the 1st

Wednesday of any month to attend and see what we are about. All Pilgrim women are encouraged and welcome to attend. Many think we only cater food; but the truth is, very few of us cook or bake. We have many areas of interests and our committees are: sanctuary, flowers, annual garage sale, food shelf, cards, annual craft sale, and catering. We are a Guild of many ages, thoughts, words, and actions. Please consider joining us. We would be pleased to see

you! Thank you!

Help Needed Catering – your help is neededThe Ladies Guild needs help with catering events (mostly funerals). Both men and women can help! There are several areas that you can help with: setting up tables, serving, clean-up, and furnishing bars. Whether you work or not, bringing a pan of bars is always greatly appreciated! If you are willing to serve Pilgrim and the Lord in this way, please contact Sherry Schochenmaier at 763-416-5003 or contact the church office. Thank you!
