Planning out what your reference photo:What expression will you have on your face? _____

Take a couple photos to chose from, pick your favorite and change it to black and white and put your reference photo here: (replace mine!):
Planning the words you will use:Write 5 words you would use for your darkest areas (you can repeat words if you want to) They could be negative words about quarantine or not, you chose. EX: illness
1. Illness 2. 3. 4. 5.
Write 5 words for your middle tones: These can be questions or neutral thoughts EX: Time
1. Time 2. 3. 4. 5.
Write 5 words for your light tones: Positive words or phrases about quarantine or the future! EX: Family
1. Family 2. 3. 4. 5.
My finished example: Feel free to delete!
Practice the 3 tones using your words:Draw 3 shapes and label your tones. Practice with size, pressure and going all the way to the edge of the line. Replace my practice image with yours!
I strongly suggest doing a practice portrait first. This is my practice portrait, I decided I wanted to use a bigger paper and not use pen because of my practice portrait. I was also a lot more confident in starting a final portrait.
PROTIP: don’t feel bad if the first one you do turns into a practice! I have drawn hundreds of self-portraits and I even started over this time!
I also made my husband try this project and he did agreed that after doing a practice one he had a better idea for his final, and he had to start a second one.
