Writing:

Last week we learned all about Walt Disney and I know many of you really enjoyed reading about him! Some of you told me that you watched Disney movies over the last few weeks.

This week I want you to write a review of a film you have seen recently. Use these points below to help you. Draw your favourite scene from the film.

1. Name of film.

2. Duration

3. Main actors.

4. Main characters.

5. Director’s name.

6. Write a five sentence summary of the film.

7. Which three of these adjectives best describe the film: brilliant, scary, far-fetched, uneventful, boring, intriguing, dated?

8. To what age group is this film best suited?

9. How many marks out of 10 would you award this film?

10. Would you recommend this film to a friend? Why/Why Not?

Why not try writing a review of your favourite book. Use the same format as the film review.

SPHE:

We are continuing with our Weaving Well Being activities this week. We are focusing on the “Rainbow Moments” we experience each day.

Take a look at these pages and do the activities. You do not have to print these pages. You can do the activites on a page or in a copy.

This week we are going to try some new breathing techniques.

In our daily lives, our breathing frequently reflects our state of mind. Each thought and feeling expresses itself in the form of relaxation or tension, peace or worry, receptiveness or fear, and triggers a biochemical reaction in the body. In normal speech too, there are many expressions that relate to the relationship between the body, mind and breathing: you catch your breath, something takes your breath away, you wait with bated breath, you take a breather, you come up for air, etc. If you are relaxed, your breathing is regular, deep and calm. However, if you are experiencing turmoil, your breathing becomes shallow, rapid and irregular. We can use breathing techniques to bring about a calm mind.

Remember, your breath goes everywhere with you!

This week I am going to give you three breathing strategies. These strategies will help you to relax and find a sense of calm and peace when faced with overwhelming emotions or challenging situations.

Science:

The science behind testing the strength of paper.

The cylinder can support the most books because it’s walls don’t have any edges. The force of the books cannot become concentrated in a particular area. The load is distributed evenly. In other words, all parts of the cylinder are sharing the load of the books.  All parts of the cylinder, therefore, contribute to it’s overall strength until, finally, it collapses.

The square and triangle deform more easily.  They shift the weight of the books to their edges and corners, which deforms their walls and leads to a quick collapse.  They are unable to carry weight only at their edges.

This week I want you to look at this chapter called Skin Deep.

Art

Think outside the box is back again this week! I loved seeing your (non) paperclip creations last week!

This is not a clock!

Do not try to print this picture. Draw it on a piece of paper and let you imagination take over!!

Ongoing work:

Continue working on a project or start a new project on a topic/topics that interests you. You can add a page each day. It could be about your favourite book, person, film, hobby, football team, Disney character or a country. You could draw, paint cut out pictures to add into your book each day and you can present your masterpiece when school starts back.

If you are doing any other fun activities at home with you family such as baking, arts and crafts, experiments or exercise activities, take pictures or write about them and tell us all about them when we are back at school.

Remember to be good for your parent’s girls and to help out at home whenever you can.

Our thought for the week this week is:

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted”.

-Aesop-

I was lucky enough to be shown fabulous kindness by many of you girls this week. You made my week!

Remember girls you can email me with your work or questions and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

[email protected]

Have a great week!

Ms. Tiernan
