Create and write a conversation between you and your friend. Inverted commasInverted commas show where a person in speaking. They need to include a reporting clause and a piece of punctuation after the person has finished speaking. Each new speaker goes on a new line E.g.“Come away from that hot oven!” Jane screamed nervously.“I only wanted to see if the buns were ready,” replied Dan excitedly.

Apostrophes – Possession Apostrophes can be used to show ownership of something. You need to be careful where the apostrophe goes for singular and plural words. E.g. The dog’s biscuits were crunchy. = there is one dog and the biscuits belong to it.The dogs’ biscuits were crunchy. = there are multiple dogs and the biscuits belong to them.
Fill in the table to make to words show possession. The first 2 rows have been done as examples.
Tick the sentences below that show singular possession. 1) The boy’s dad carried him home.2) The foxes’ tails were long and bushy.3) The ponies’ stables were warm and dry.4) The children’s shoes were dirty and smelly.5) After it had been on a long walk, the dog’s paws were filthy. 6) Under the blanket, the kitten’s nose was twitching.
Use the pictures to write sentences, using an apostrophe for possession, that are plural.
