Lesson Objectives1. Define unit vocabulary. (Knowledge)

2. Identify unit vocabulary within the classroom. (Comprehension)

National StandardsStandard 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken

language on a variety of topics.

Standard 4.1: Students demonstrate understanding of the nature of

language through comparisons of the language studied and their own.

State Standards1. Recognize target language words and phrases spoken in context.

2. Interpret basic oral and written information in the target language on a

variety of topics in the present time frame.

Pre-Instructional ActivitiesTeacher will review prerequisite skills by asking students to complete a

worksheet as a group. The worksheet will consist of vocabulary that students

should have learned in previous units that will be helpful in this unit. They

will be assessed on the checklist (Attached.) Any skills not observed by the

instructor will be taught and/or modeled immediately following the activity.

Directed Teaching

The instructor will then show a PowerPoint (Attached) slideshow, with

each slide containing a vocabulary word and an image that coincides with

that word. Teacher will make connections between the Spanish word and

words in English as well as point out any cognates, difficultly spelled words,

or necessary accent marks. The class will be instructed to repeat after the

instructor for proper pronunciation. While the PowerPoint is being shown,

students will write the Spanish word on their worksheets that fits the English

translation given. Worksheets will be numbered the same as the slides.

Guided Practice

After the lecture, the teacher will give each group a set of notecards

with one laminated colored notecard for each Spanish vocabulary term. Each

group will then race to tape their cards to the classroom objects that

coincide with their term. Upon completion, the teacher will then point out

each labeled object in the classroom. The group that labeled all of the

objects first will not have to gather them up at the end of class.

Independent Practice

The class will be shown an example classroom layout. They will then

be instructed to, as a group, begin to make their own blueprint and identify

objects in Spanish to practice vocabulary terms. This will help them practice

their vocabulary. Students will sketch the layout of their classroom, labeling

all objects using the unit vocabulary along with who sits where.

Formative

Students will be given a worksheet in which they select the vocabulary term

that best identifies the object and write it in the space provided. Formative

Data will be collected upon the worksheet. Students will be rewarded ½ a

point for each vocabulary term correctly identified for a possible total of 5

points.
